goldenairways
I am new here and in a few days I hope to be start but I have just hit a brick wall and I am trying to figure out if I need any licences to sell to the US. I have been told that I need a "Seller's Licence" to sell to the US, but the person I am speaking to says that you need to have a licence or else you will probably get sued. They said that its for the whole of the US but I have only found somewhere to sign up for California and I am researching it. My operations will be located in the UK too. I have also said that I can try and exclude US from buying anything but he just keeps saying I will get sued anyway. Lots of you run operations in the UK and sell to the US. He also said that a licence costs about $1,000 and you get it from your local govenment office which because I am UK based, I couldn't get one anyway. Also is there any other countries which anybody knows of that you need a selling licence for, I can't see that you need a licence for UK but I may be wrong. Thank You in advanced.

goldenairways
So from the last 3 posts I am assuming that this is incorrect. I decided to come here since people on this forum have years of experience with selling web hosting, domains, etc to united states customers. Thank You everybody for your help.

I am UK based and have may USA clients. I have never ever heard of any such thing. The only thing i know is if you are a USA business, based in the USA you need to be registered as a business.
goldenairways
Yea, I did think that. And I am assuming there is no licences or anything which you must have in the UK is there? I just thought I would ask incase, from what I looked up earlier, there wasn't anything like that. Thanks.

In the UK if you are running as a business, you will need to inform the tax office, but as far as registering this only applies if your are a ltd or plc.
