Gears
Suddenly one day my backups stopped, and I am trying to troubleshoot this. What port does it use? Default 21?
Matt Wade
I would assume it uses Port 21. FYI...I started using WHMCS with version 3.8.1 and have not had a backup work yet. Did yours happen to stop working with an upgrade?
Gears
No, it actually stopped working before the upgrade. The last FTP backup I have is from November 16th. However we still may have a similar issue.

bear
I'm not personally using the WHMCS backup (have other methods), but recently had FTP backups from the backup script I'm using falling over. Turns out it was network issues on the gaining server that were timing out the FTP transfers. It was discovered by logging into shell on the gaining server and noticing a few FTP processes in top that didn't seem to be completing. Checked the receiving directory for the file, and it showed a "part" upload that wasn't increasing in size. Investigated, and discovered I couldn't manually transfer in (FTP, SCP or WGET), but could transfer out. Since that box is not under my control (external VPS for billing), I contacted them, and they eventually found and fixed it. Check your logs. Check via shell if you have access.
