Normal to give out user details?

Hi, I am calling on all you ppl who have had problems with your WHMCS, is it normal that you hand over your login details so that staff can go into your account to troubleshoot?

I cannot suspend or delete a client service (hosting) manually or automatically, everything else works great, new account, upgrade/ down grade, create etc so I have full access to the server, even clicking on the WHM button in server setup takes me straight in.

I have explained all this in a ticket and now staff have asked for permission to go into my WHMCS admin section, what do you recon?

If they weren't trustworthy, they could have built something into the script in the first place. I trust them to remain professional at all times, and have never heard or experienced anything to the contrary.

Besides, you could change the password once they're done if it worries you. ;)

Trusting or not, you should always change passwords before/after a third party works on your server IMHO.

On the few occasions we've needed WHMCS to take a look at something, we've set teh passwords to new values, taken backups, put up a "back soon" page to replace the client area login and then let them at it.

On each occasion, they've been meticulously careful in what they touch/change/upload, and always passwords and another copy taken straight after any fixes.

IMHO if you're trusting their software to run your business, then there is little point not being able to trust them with access to your system to keep it running in the event of a fault somewhere, but *BACKUPS* are not an option, they are a necessity - even the most careful technician will eventually fvckitup ™

The other alternative to changing the password is to create another admin just for WHMCS use then disable/re-enable as needed; although they'll proabbly want the cpanel/account password as well.

It's always a good idea to change the password after a 3rd party, even if it's an incredibly trustworthy and reliable 3rd party, access your systems. The reason is that your password is probably logged in their systems, and if the unthinkable happens and their data gets stolen/hijacked or whatever, you're covered. (NOTE: this has never happened, and I don't expect it to, but if you're paranoid you have another option now :))
