Why don't dedicated/vps packages have hosts?

If we setup a shared or reseller package (product group in the product & services detai) then we get a drop down for the server name in product / services for the client (which server it's assigned to). If we setup a dedicated / vps type package then the "server" drop down turns into a host edit box. We can still fill the information in but:

- We can't use the server name for a criteria on mass emila

- It does not show up on the server revenue forecast report

Why are VPS/Dedicated packages treated differently?

TIA,

Frank

@MikeDVB,

It was more of a question as to how other people do things before I put in a feature request. Because Dedicated/VPS can't be assigned to servers they don't show up the the server revenue reports, you can't search on the in the client area etc.

They are treated differently because Config > Servers is where you are meant to setup your shared/reseller hosting servers only. If you sell dedicated servers to your customers, you should not be setting them up as servers in your WHMCS system - they should be just the product that gets ordered.

@Matt,

The problem is that breaks some of the report. Dedicated/VPS are not going to show on the Server Revenue Forecast report.

I can sort of see not setting up dedicated but a VPS is "similar" to a reseller account. Many VPS's can be put on one physical node. It would make sense to be able to email all the VPS clients on a physical node, generate revenue forecasts etc.

Please don't take this as an argument, I'm just trying to understand the design philosophy.

I understand what your saying Matt regarding Dedicated servers...

But this shouldn't affect VPS servers. As there is multiple clients on one server, and not one client on one server...

I miss this feature to, but for VPSs. Were the clients actually belong to a server inside the WHMCS software.

If you don't see any other way to do this Bionic, then you need to consider to be a bit more creative.

Things don't get improved and better by saying "I don't see a different way of doing this"

Because your not intelligent or creative enough to figure out a different way to do things does not mean that other people is not capable of so.

I am on the side of "Why can't we assign a dedicated server to a customer and have that revenue count against that servers cost in the server forecast reports???"

If you are selling dedicated servers then they are a product like anything else, no different then VPS, Hosting or Games!

This is not to take place of accounting software, but complement it. A quick look to see if you are on track without getting into another application, updating it to the current point of time and then running a report.

You say it is less accurate then an accounting software, of course this is true! WHMCS is not accounting software, but it is intended to help us manage our services and as such fixing this reporting anomaly could help predict a short fall or other error without being to the penny!
