ScrltOTara
I have a reseller account with GoDaddy, but I hate having to manually do everything. Now that I have WHMCS, I'd like to find a new registrar, but am wondering how I can transfer the domains from GoDaddy easily? And is it possible to do without the clients knowing? or will I have to ask all of our clients to physically transfer the domain?

You can transfer them without the clients knowing, but you should be more concerned with how to go about doing it... The only way to transfer to another registrar is to renew the domain through the new registrar. This means that you either have to do manual transfers every time someone renews a domain for the next year, or you have to pay out of your pocket the cost of a renewal for every domain that you have in your system.
ScrltOTara
I would do it myself as they come up for renewal except that 1. WWD sends the clients renewal emails, not me. and 2. the client would have to approve a transfer, yes?

I'm not too familiar w/ WWD, but if the EU is a client of yours and they are just a "whitebox" system that you go through, you should be able to prevent WWD from sending those emails. Whether the client should have to approve the transfer depends on a couple of things. 1. Your setup with WWD. Do you have control over the domain in their system (if it's locked, etc.) and 2. Your TOS with the customer. Does the client purchase the domain THROUGH you, or do they purchase the domain FROM you.
chickendippers
We're moving from eNom to DirectI and this is how I do it: 60 days before the domain is due for renewal I change the registrar from eNom to DirectI (this stops the domain being renewed at eNom), When the customer pays for the renewal I receive an error message as expected, Login to eNom and change the contact email address to mine and unlock it, Initiate the transfer request from DirectI. Once the transfer is competed I change the contact details back and re-lock the domain. That way I get all the authorization emails and the customer is none the wiser.
ScrltOTara
I'll have to check with my account, but I'm pretty sure the way WWD works is that they go through me so I have no control over the domains. But I'll double check. If I could do it the way was recommended, that would work great!
alinford
I will be switching Registrars soon. Is there any way to set things up so that ALL renewals are done through the default (new) Registrar, even though a specific domain is being managed by a different Registrar? I understand that this will create an error upon renewal (letting me manually transfer the domain for the client), but this would stop me from having to switch domains individually.
chickendippers
There isn't a bulk change registrars tool in WHMCS, but you can do it through the database.
avekhost.com
My experience with WWD is that it is basically an affiliate based web site. They still control all the information, payments, and support for any domain names purchased. You can only set pricing, products, and promotions. I would think the best way to handle the transfer is to take it step by step and slowly intergrate it with the new registrars. Remember if you clients have to do the leg work they likely won't be happy and for customer retention sake you may even be better leaving them on the WWD. If you are making a profit you can continue to pay your annual fee until your no longer turning a profit. If you not currently turning a profit then let ride for the remainder of the year and switch now, don't worry about transferring the domains for retention sake. Now, that I have offered my two cents on that, I wanted to ask a question that fits well under this category. What site/company do you feel is best for hosting companies as the domain registar? Is Enom good? Is Directi better? Which is easiest to use, set-up, etc. Any insight on domain name reseller locations?
