handsonwebhosting
Hi folks, We're actually in the middle of making the switch from eNom to Directi due to pricing etc (we have over 1200 domains registered through eNom, but their lowest price is still $7.49 directly through them). Anyway - on eNom, the Privacy Protection worked like a charm in WHMCS - but not with Directi. The question is this; I know we can set the privacy protection in Directi's control panel, but when done through WHMCS it doesn't work. Does it work in WHMCS on the ORDER process? Domain Lock works perfect - no issues at all, but the protection would be nice to enable for our customers directly.
chickendippers
I have noticed this too, it seems to have stopped working. I'd have sworn that it worked when this was first implemented.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted March 6, 2008 WHMCS CEO Share Posted March 6, 2008 ID Protection can only be enabled at the time of registration for any of the registrar modules. No on/off function as it often has a cost unlike Domain Locking. Matt
chickendippers
But it doesn't with DirectI.
mm1250
Yes, I am doing the switch to DirectI. I just signed up because they are running a 1month special where you get $6.99 registration on the US TLDs. This is pretty good rate so I'm going ot hop aboard. + the ID protection being free was the nail on the confin as it cost $6 with Enom.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted March 8, 2008 WHMCS CEO Share Posted March 8, 2008 But it doesn't with DirectI. Well it certainly should be doing. I'm unable to reproduce here - could it have been a TLD that doesn't support it? If not, please open a ticket with your login details and a domain where ID protection is enabled in WHMCS and was at the time of registration but it wasn't applied to the domain. chickendippers
I mean that both domain un/locking and ID protection are free with DirectI. So I don't see a reason why it can't be deactivated and activated at will.

For instance our module doesnt have it at the moment for turn on/off when required but does at time of registration. I'll check the API, and if it can be added we will discuss it with Matt for our module in WHMCS. Kind regards, Chris

netearth
Cool beans Hi ChickenDippers, Spoke with Matt this morning and it would need a chunk of WHMCS changing as well rather than just the module side of things, even our Module is the same. So, it isnt something that will happen overnight, might be worth putting it in as a dev or feature rquest and see if it can be added. Kind regards, Chris
chickendippers
It's just a bit confusing with the check box. If it can't be disabled from the client area, why have a check box? It certainly gave me the impression you could change privacy protection at will.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted March 10, 2008 WHMCS CEO Share Posted March 10, 2008 There is no checkbox in the client area for ID protection so shouldn't be any confusion over it. I think you're confusing it with Domain Locking which can be changed at will. Matt
chickendippers
Ah my apologies.
handsonwebhosting
Thanks to everyone for continuing this discussion. I know I brought it up, but got a little slammed here with dedicated servers and wasn't able to followup on this. Thank you again for the continued input - it's greatly appreciated.
alinford
Matt posted that Whois Privacy can only be enabled at the time of registration. Does that mean that clients will not be able to purchase this service at a later time? Is there no way to manually upgrade clients?
chickendippers
Sure, you can manually create an invoice and then login to DirectI and add privacy protection.
Dominic
I too find it odd that there's an admin-side box but no client-side box. I can see how it could be complex to add to WHMCS as a generic setting though - at the moment ID protection costs are only available as a general setting rather than per-TLD/registrar. There's an entry in the DirectI API to enable/disable privacy protection so I'll try to knock something up this week for this. Same for Nominet, too.
