mm1250
I think now that I've had ample time to use WHMCS in our business it is time for me to shed some light on my experience with the software and the support I have recieved. I was coming from Modernbill v5 and I was really in a mess with the whole automation that Modernbill had. I won't go into detail on that. When I first started looking at WHMCS I was very skeptical that it could actually work or my needs. Mabye the funny icons and light blue background turned me off a little, who knows. Also becuase I was using Kayako for my support, I found that the WHMCS ticket system, KB, downloads, articles etc were just going to get in the way. But after hearing so much praise I decided to do a test trial. After the first day I knew it was time to switch. PROS: WHMCS is much faster than Modernbill. WHMCS is much more usable. Support is very quick to answer my questions. Matt has been really great. The software works as advertised. *ALMOST* bugfree infact. Templates can be very easily customized! One thing I enjoy the most is Matt's consideration of feature requests. I dont' know if I was a direct impact to the recent featres added but I have made some requests and sure enough next version they were added. I was very supprised to be honest. Some features were the 1. Order Confirmation page shown at the end of orders 2. Credit card processing options to allow auto-charge before due-date. I'm very happy I made the switch and would recommend anyone who is intersted in getting it to atleast try it. I hope Matt keeps up the good work. CONS: While it is a billing system, there seems to be no way to put a credit to the credit card via WHMCS, this needs to be done through your 3rd party gateway. I think this might be added soon I hope. Domain Transfers are a little tricky in the system. Can be a bit to manage since WHMCS doesn't pull the status of the domain and expry date from registrar. So it requries a little extra manual work. I'm hoping he can come up with a better domain transfer management system. That's all I can see that I don't like but at the end the pros way outweigh the cons. My overall rating is 9/10

I too hope that WHMCS will at least be able to issue refunds for the payment gateways that have this as an available option.
mm1250
Wow, I'm speechless now. I was just looking at the devtracker for v3.6.1 and noticed this new feature add: Added support for refunding with Authorize.net . Now I have nothing to complain about. What will I do with my spare time
Brett
Yep, I saw this about 2-3 days ago and was very exited to see that it is being added as a feature.
ronstevens
So I have been using for about 3 months also.. a review on WHMCS there is one thing to say, whmcs is best for web hosting providers and not necessarily other services as indicated on your website. Reason: Does not work well for design services and would only recommend it for actual web hosting and control panel automating systems. I would give this a 4/5 for web hosting and 2/5 for design services in the term of features. I don't plan on switching yet I don;t know if it is going to work..
mylove4life
I don't do hosting at all and have used it for years... What features are you looking at that are needed or can't be added with some coding... You can do anything with WHMCS if you want to take the time to think it out....

We've been using WHMCS for design for a little over a year now and it's been great. It required some customization and custom modules but overall, it works perfectly.

It required some customization and custom modules but overall, it works perfectly. Bryan, Could you possibly share some of the modules you developed to make WHMCS work better for design services? Or maybe just point me in the right direction?--did you develop the modules yourself or find a company specializing in module development for WHMCS? One thing I'm struggling with is the fact that when you create an invoice for a client and they have credit card info on file, they'll be charged immediately. This doesn't seem like a good idea--the client should have a chance to review the invoice, then allow the charge to happen by clicking a "pay now" button or something. When dealing with big ticket design services, you risk putting your client over their credit card limit..risky. Plus they should have an easier way to decide whether they're paying via credit card on file, or mailing payment. The payment gateway dropdown menu on the invoice is not very good from a UI standpoint--most clients wouldn't know to change that. Should be big buttons--one that has the credit card logos, and one that says pay by check. I assume these kinds of things can do via modules and template modification--just haven't gotten deep enough into it yet.
