Spam emails?

Actually, $20 for that sort of specialized support from your host - above and beyond what is normally needed - is quite reasonable, I'd just pay it and hold them to providing the service.

A $20 fee to create an SPF record? We've never charged for that, and wouldn't think to do so for 2 minutes work. We ask them a few questions, generate the record, edit the zone for that name. Literally 2 minutes effort.

What, this is always needed... this is just normal support, and if fact they do not have the DNS system setup right if it don't add the record when you add the first email address into the system... All the control panels will do this and it's easy to do..

Really? I haven't yet seen cPanel to be willing or able to create an SPF record automatically. I mean, how could it? It won't know the proper senders to add, additional senders...etc. SPF is a manual setting, AFAIK, and should remain so.

It would be nice to have the ability to generate the SPF directly in cPanel, however...even though SPF is a broken protocol. Doesn't work well, and not all ISPs understand how to implement or work with it properly (we've run into quite a few). ;)

*/bear is old and tired... :D

That's where you add the SPF, in the "edit zones" in WHM.

Unless you mean adding one to the zone template so it's always included in new setups? The only way to do that reliably (without breaking things too badly) would be to set it to allow all, defeating the purpose of having one, but yes, it can be done.

Gah, okay. Thanks to bear (:)) I have the SPF Record set up working. My emails a still getting received as spam though, and it's starting to piss me off. I don't know what's left, my host's telling me rDNS is already set up, and I have my SPF record. Someone mentioned domainkeys, but does that really help? And I have no idea what it is; or how to set it up to be honest.

Forgive the slight necroposting. :P

  • 1 year later...

Any help with this would be great. I followed the link earlier to Microsofts site. Went through the wizard. Got the following:

v=spf1 a mx ptr ip4:174.132.130.188 mx:iteurope.ie +all

I pasted this into a TXT entry in the DNS records in my WHM, but got the following error:

Unable to parse zone: Error while parsing zonedata for iteurope.ie: syntax error, line 23

...propagated at /usr/local/cpanel/Cpanel/CPAN/Net/DNS/ZoneFile/Fast.pm line 142.

Am I doing anything wrong?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
