Having uploaded all new files, backed up the database , I've then visited the install / update URL and get the following message

We have detected that you are already running WHMCS version 8.9.0.

This installation script can only upgrade as far as 8.9.0. There is no update to perform.

The error still exists if we login with the newly uploaded files in place though...

  • WHMCS Support Manager

Hi @jmedinger,

This isn't an error we've received other reports about. It could be caused by a customisation specific to your instance of WHMCS.

Please can you ensure there are no customisations present on your installation as these can often change the way WHMCS operates.
These are typically located in the /includes/hooks and /modules/ directories

Once the issue is resolved you can add them back one-by-one until the problem begins again - at which point you have identified the troublesome customisation and can contact the vendor directly for assistance resolving the problem in their code.

If the problem persists after that, please open a ticket with technical support so we can access your WHMCS instance and investigate further: https://www.whmcs.com/submit-a-ticket/
