custom.css loads only on certain pages! Parent-Child relationship seems bugged!

RANT INCOMING!  I'm SO frustrated with this stupid template system!

There HAS to be a stupid bug somewhere!  I noticed that the common.tpl file checks first to see if there is an existing custom.css file and if there is, it will load it.

BUUUTT  it doesn't load it on every page EVEN IF the file does actually exists.

It's SO FREAKING annoying!

And yet it wont load when choosing your domain options but WILL load on the product selection??

What the hell??

I do like to see a good rant here! 🙂

though I think really you should have posted in the v8.1 forums, as WHMCS staff will have more chance of seeing it there - personally. i'd consider the child theme process to effectively still really be in beta (or let's call it "more public testing" lol).... I don't think it was tested thoroughly during beta (certainly I didn't nor did I see a lot of threads about it), so I would consider it buggy until we get towards v8.2 or later.

Well I posted it in the dev community as this is related to development and I thought the 8.1 release was not related because since 6.1.x already the parent child relationship has already been implemented since then so I didn't think it was a "new" thing.

Yes, I am very sure this happens.  I showed screenshots 😉

I think you muddied my mind with the screenshots of child main themes - and I couldn't figure out if this was a child cart theme working in a child main theme.

Sorry if my post was confusing!

So I am simply trying to make a child theme of the SIX theme.  but it just doesn't work!

it should - somewhere you must have come unstuck.. or hit a bug.

for simplicity, if I create a child of Six, no templates for now just a custom.css file, that works...

#footer { background-color: #FF0000 !important; }

if I copy your bs-six-810 custom.css, then I get...

I'm not near my machine now but it's not that the code in the custom.css file works or doesn't work, It's that the custom.css file is not loaded on all pages. At least on my side it doesn't always load.

when you get the chance, can you give another example of that - because i'm still seeing the custom.css load on the above screenshot of your first example.

TBH I gave up on this.  I went the old route of making a complete copy os SIX and just performing a search and replace on all files to make sure the name was now the custom template.

I then made all my changes as needed.

I dont want to waste my time on this ridiculously bad coded Parent-Child relationship that WHMCS put together.

I don't blame you - banging your head against the proverbial WHMCS built brick wall can cause concussion. 🤕

this may not apply to you, but there is a hotfix for child template issues if your server is not using unix (paraphrasing).
