Request for WHMCS to release source code for deprecated modules

Hi,

Any ideas on how to request from WHMCS to release the source code for deprecated modules developed by them? I think it can provide great value to us as a community to continue development on deprecated modules so they can work w/ WHMCS 8.0+.

Has this been done in the past? If so whom can I reach out at WHMCS to discuss this further?

In our case, we would like to update the resellone domain registration (https://docs.whmcs.com/ResellOne) so it can work w/ WHMCS 8.x.

Thank you,

SW

officially, I would expect that you might need to open a ticket with Support and hope it eventually gets through to someone qualified to make such a decision.

that depends if they plan to bring it back in the future...

I assume they're OpenSRS resellers, or at least using their API, because AFAIK the module has a dependency on the OpenSRS module too.

not that i'm aware of publicly... privately, they might sell you the code, or provide it with an NDA... but my suspicion is that they would be unlikely to share it under the current circumstances, e.g in case they need to resurrect it.

unofficially, I would go to the top and work down.... but you can't PM Matt or the senior developers directly, so you might have to settle far below that...

i'm tempted to suggest that if you can't get hold of that module's source code, then you're really not trying. 😜

Hi @brian!,

Thank you for your helpful info! I did try to reach out to support and was told "regrettably that is not a module that we are able to provide source code for".  I'll keep trying other avenues to reach someone qualified to make a decision.

I think it's simply bad business for WHMCS not to allow existing paying customers the option to continue development of a deprecated module or offer other options. One option which can be easily implemented is to clone the existing opensrs module and offer WHMCS users the option to manually input the api hostname and api port number. The resellone module uses the same exact api code as the opensrs module. Simply changing the api_hostname from "https://rr-n1-tor.opensrs.net:55443" to "https://rr-n1-tor.resellone.net:55000" would be all that is needed.

Thank you again for the help!

Best Regards,

SW

that sounds familiar... I can recall someone previously asking for the PayPal gateway code as they wanted to use more than one PayPal account in their install (that was denied too)... though there is (or at least was back then), a free addon module you could use to enable that.
