Free Admin Themes

Hello,

 

Does anyone have any idea where to find free admin themes for v7.10.2? I found two which are paid. The theme would be only for me for better looks I guess.

I think the best admin theme would be Lara - but it's paid and probably one of the two you've already found - so not an option for you.

there aren't too many free admin themes - not least because they will have to be constantly updated - there's the Dark version of Blend that was recently posted - that is just CSS tweaks to the blend template - so same functionality, just darker. 😎

with v8 going to be the next major release, and nobody knowing what visual impact it's going to have on the admin area, even if you do find a free theme that works today, there's no guarantee that it would work with v8 out of the box.

YES! the dark would suffice. Regarding v8, I have a paid theme that I did heavy customizing for, would I be able to *convert* it to v8?

it's difficult to say because I don't know what you've customised nor, more importantly, what's going to change in v8.... my suspicion is that if this is a paid theme, you should wait for it's developer to update it for v8 (or more likely v8.01 which will get released a week later because v8 will undoubtedly contains bugs not found during beta), and then re-apply those previous changes... though many of those changes may no longer be relevant depending on how backward compatible v8 is going to be.

I wouldn't worry about v8 for now - you can stick with v7.10 until you have modified your theme to work with v8... I would expect v8 to be in beta for many months and not see a full release until much later in the year (Halloween - but these things are all fluid and i'm speculating with no inside knowledge, just from past experience).
