custom product field

I'm looking for a way to add a custom PRODUCT field across ALL products.

This field must be present in the product details page. (like name, description etc.)

Any idea how I can do this?

the problem here is that a product custom field is assigned to a specific product.... you couldn't assign one product custom field to multiple products.

there's no administrative way to create multiple product custom fields for multiple products - you'd have to add a custom field to each product manually.

if you had a *lot* of products to do this with, you could do it with a hook or SQL query, but unless the number was significant, i'm not sure that i'd bother.
