Si
This is my personal testament to highlight how highly I rate WHMCS. Almost 9 years ago I started web hosting...using a product called whoiscart pro. Then after a couple of years moved to Perlbill. 4+ years later moved to Modernbill. At that time, web hosting was my full-time business and it supported myself and my family 100%. Our sole income was from our web hosting business. Modernbill: Bad bad move. Probably the worst business decision we ever made. Buying something that we believed was 'the' product for our industry, we soon realised that it was actually something that not only alienated our customers, lost us business, caused my health to suffer greatly (due to time spent bug fighting and praying the thing wouldn't pull us under). I can't stress how much of a toll a poor piece of software like modernbill took on my family life, not to mention our business. For that I will never forgive a company like moderngigabyte. They are messing with the livelihoods and the health of people by continuing to offer a product that does not enrich or aid business. By chance, in the middle of 2007, following a post on the mb forums, a modernbill forum member sent me a PM and advised I take a look at WHMCS. I had never heard of WHMCS at this stage. So I did. Almost instantly I got a sense and a feel for what Matt had achieved with this software. I told my wife to take a read. She did and instantly downloaded the trial and were convinced within days that we simply had to make the move. That move took us 2-3 months of solid work ensuring everything moved smoothly and gearing WHMCS to fit into our existing site. On the 16th October we made the switch-over and since then, customers have loved the interface, layout and control. Sales are up and customers are happier to refer us on again as enquiries are increasing as well. Everything is automated, the way it should be and customers even comment on how, with more time, we are able to take care of their support in a friendlier and professional manner. We are much more relaxed about our business. (Thats what we've spent years working for). My health is already improving and I can now spend more time enjoying my children and family life again. Above and beyond all the technicalities of a piece of software, (well done Matt), you need to know sir, that what you do, (have done), not only addresses a need, but has enriched one families life more than you can imagine. Here's to a Happy Christmas (and with 3.5 to come). This is the story of the humanity of web hosting and the people behind the websites. If you are in this business, or are moving into this business, there is no other route to go. Avoid the trials....go with WHMCS. Thank you Matt.
sleeplessmark
Nice post! I'm fairly new to selling web hosting so it didn't really occur to me before reading your post just how the billing system for a hosting company can become such an intricate part of your life, scary thought, but probably why when I first looked around the forums I've found a lot of people seem to have a genuine affection for this piece of software and the developers behind it, which is quite an unusual thing to see, and is always a good sign. Thankfully I was lucky and managed to dodge the MB bullet as I only used it for two days when testing out different billing systems. It was unbelievable, the amount of grief I got from it right out of the box, I don't think I've experienced software like it. However the fact it failed to work properly was probably a blessing in disguise if your experience is anything to go by! At the time I didn't know about WHMCS, and I thought if MB is the industry standard billing system, as I was led to believe at the time, then I'd rather write my own! Thankfully I stumbled across WHMCS and saved myself a lot of hard development work as it truly is a fantastic bit of software!
rodeoXtreme
Wow! Si I can feel the emotion from your post. I am always impressed with Matt and his support; but what also impresses me as much or more is that most of us on this Forum and the users of this Wonderful piece of Software are competitors to some degree but I have never seen so many people helping each other the way that they do. I have been a self employed businessmen for almost 30 years and I have never met as many good people than I have on this forum. Great post again Si. I just read it to my wife and I think she has a tear in her eye. Keith

railto
I have been hosting for about 2 years now, started out using a horrible system called host director, and then moved from reselling to running my own servers, at that time i also purchased a copy of MB from a contact i had who was reselling it. To say it was easy is a lie, i found it really hard to work with, I too got a PM from a person on the MB forums mentioning WHMCS, and i took a look straight away and after reading the feature list and having a look at the demo i downloaded the trial and sarted putting it through its paces, I also recommended it to the person i got MB from and they have since moved over onto it. this system is so easy to use, MB took me weeks to get configured to vaguley resemble what i wanted, within that same timeframe i had whmcs tested, configged and skinned to match our site. Matt, well done, you and your team are coding geniusus and WHMCS is a product that truly makes hosting possible without having a custom built system
vnsg
i never think a script can affect much on a ppl life but we had a true story here. I have used MB,Clientexec,WHAP from the day i start my hosting biz; however when i start using WHMCS one and half year ago, never look back to those. WHMCS also have a really good basic support system so i can save my bucks on Supportsuite, and now they are integrated, a perfect match. Before knowing WHMCS, i was looking for an easy to use, easy to edit templates and less load put on server billing system; WHMCS give me all so i always recommend it for everyone i know
danield
WHMCS is user friendly unlike others. I tried WHMAP and i was so disappointed. The admin panel is so confusing and my users/clients didnt know which way to go. So i switched to WHMCS. Great Story. - Prilep
urevised
Modernbill was also the worst decision we made. We had 50 clients leave us just because the billing system kept screwing up and their support is rubbish. You try and get help with their crappy product and they know nothing about it. Instead they try and fob you off with something that doesn't work and clearly has nothing to do with the problem. Overall i am very impressed with WHMCS. It nice to see a script that has very minimal errors if none at all.
