Email mailbox counts

First a little background. Our hosting packages have a number of email accounts assigned as resources with quota. For example:

Email only hosting, 10 email accounts, 25 gb mailbox, 25 meg max message size, additional email boxes at price per mailbox.

Web only hosting, no email, adding email is optional at price per mailbox.

Full package web and email, 10 email accounts..., additional boxes at price per mailbox.

We are currently configured with WHMCS controlling 3 Plesk instances with the following services:

1 - Linux Web hosting, no email services

2 - Windows Web hosting, no email services

3 - SmarterMail email services, no web hosting.

The desired effect is that customers can choose their hosting package and flexibly add email service or to only have email service with no web service.

Now to my question. With this configuration is it possible to configure the web hosting packages to offer email as an add-on option for the same domain? Same with the inverse?

With the email package, we can already limit the number of email boxes to 10 and have the add-on for additional mail boxes. Can we allow web hosting to be an optional add on for the email package?

For those that want one then add the other, should we just create those plans in WHMCS and then have them re-subscribe? How would that affect provisioning?

Thanks

Hey Penpubjohn,

In v7.2 we added Modules for Product Addons

  • Modules for Product Addons - Product add-ons can now leverage modules for automatic provisioning and management. This change gives product add-ons much greater power and flexibility and allows you to offer everything you currently offer as a product as an add-on. Please note some changes may be required to 3rd party add-on modules for full compatibility with product add-ons

This might be a way, setup Product-Addons that allow the provisioning of email boxes or Web-Hosting which users can then order from https://docs.whmcs.com/Product_Addons

After some configuration and testing, it appears there is a flaw to this idea that needs a work-around. Since management of web and mail services is on separate panel servers, there is no link out of WHMCS for the add-on service management. For example, when a web-only package is selected and email service add-on selected, there is only one link for control panel when two are required to manage all services - the control panel link for web service. In this case, this leaves no way to get to the second panel to manage email service.

    Any thoughts?

Right now it appears a customer desiring web and mail service will need two separate packages. If that is how we must do this, that is fine, but then we need to figure out a discount for the add-on service package since web or mail is already there and this is an add-on as previously noted.

    • 2 weeks later...

After more testing and working with support, the management link issue is a bug to be remedied in a later release. So far, further testing is showing we can get there using separate packages, 1 for hosting and 1 for mail. We are now looking at using a coupon code of something along those lines to allow the service to be added on (either way) and get the desired billing right.
