so after 3 months terminates, if the same client buy the same product, whmcs detects that this client had pay the setup fee before.

it wouldn't detect it because to WHMCS they're two different products... one has been terminated, the other has been created.

is this something you want to do? e.g if client already had the same product, to not charge a setup again ?? that might need a free setup promotion code based on existing products (though off the top of my head, I can't remember if those requisites have to be active or can be terminated).

ADC is correct - but there's nothing to stop you adding a setup fee to the same product for Monthly/Quarterly cycles, but not adding one to semi/annual cycles.

Im confused here guys, so on monthly recurring will the setup fee be assessed and billed if they pay before the product cancels?

The setup fee would be invoiced on same invoice as the first months service. So if your client signs up today, they will see that setup fee on todays invoice! Not in 3 months time.

got it! so what if the product is expired, suspended? still no setup fee unless its fully terminated?

We are NOT on the same page here..

For a product to be suspended it would have to have been once active, to be active the client would have had to pay the first invoice, which would have had the setup fee added. The setup fee gets added on the clients FIRST invoice for that specific service! it is not deferred.

yes thats what Im talking about, setup fee for new order. Im assuming there will be no setup fee on renewal? even if the product is suspended or expired no setup fee until product is terminated and re-ordered again? or brand new order.

no, there's no setup fee on renewal... it's an one-off payment added to the first invoice with the initial order... if it gets suspended/expires/cancelled/terminated, the user won't be charged a setup fee again unless/until they order the product again.
