Managing Recurring sysadmin Tasks

Hi

Just curious what others are using for their staff to manage recurring general sysadmin tasks e.g applying server updates, checking logs, security rules, billing etc ? Are you using WHMCS or another piece of software ? It would be nice if WHMCS had something built in to manage recurring tasks, unless I am missing something.

Thanks

Martin

The reason I asked is WHMCS has a Project Manager and a To Do utility. Also a Calendar function where you can create Tasks......but none of these can be used to schedule a recurring TASK /Event , it really should be a standard option, most Calendar /planning software has this feature. I never mentioned cPanel.

Yes you could use that, but like someone else mentioned. You would be better using something outside of WHMCS for staff tasks, as WHMCS is more a front end billing solution for users. Of course you can still use WHMCS for internal staff work, in that case the Project Manager or another add-on could be useful but I suspect that one is also more related to creating customers projects. Of course you can still use it for internal projects in your company, like updating server X is one project and so on and other staff members can update it.

I was going to buy that module, but for customers projects, not internal projects, but it seems its not updated in a few years now. So I'm afraid WHMCS may drop the module or discontinue the developing. You can contact them and ask, if they will continue developing and your team is small with rather simple tasks, it should work fine. I don't see why not.

Projects = Multiple Tasks

If its just simple tasks, then the To Do will work fine and you don't need the project module. That is actually what it is for. Its not for customers use, but for staff use. The build in To-Do and Calendar is there for staff/admin related work as end users have no access in anyway to those features.

From WHMCS documentation:

To Do

The to do list allows you to add tasks that need to be carried out, the dates they are due for completion by and the admin they are assigned to.

Calendar

You can also add your own events and tasks to the calendar. These can be either one time events or regular recurring events (eg. server payments, admin tasks, etc...) and an even can span multiple days.

So yes, you can use them for anything you want. Including servers tasks like updates, patching, upgrading, etc.
