argonhosting
Hi all! New to WHMCS and I am wondering what is the most efficient way to setup options to products. I see product addons and then configurable options and wanted to hear how everyone was using them. Example: Client signs up for hosting package. Wants a dedicated IP address added to their account. Would this be as an addon or a configurable option? Example 2: You offer different levels of support options for dedicated servers. I can understand this would be better as a config. option to be able to offer a dropdown and allow them to choose which level of support, but I guess it could be an addon as well. Just thought I would grab some opinions out there and see how everyone else was using these features. Thanks!
kris1351
We have been setting most of it up as configurable options, the add ons didn't work as well for things such as IPs or bandwidth for us since those were set prices.
ddenev
Could anybody else share how they use config options and addons. There is nothing in the WHMCS manual on the matter. I would like also to know more about when to use which of these options. Thank you.
TDub
Yeah, I'm a little at a loss as to what the difference is between the two. They appear to basically be the same. And addons aren't prorated whereas configurable options are, but I can't add a configurable option to a plan after initial signup. I would think any options available on the signup should be available as addons to the plan later, all configurable as prorated of course.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted November 15, 2007 WHMCS CEO Share Posted November 15, 2007 but I can't add a configurable option to a plan after initial signup. Sure you can. Clients can order a Configurable Options upgrade and you can manually change them from the admin area. Matt
TDub
Hmm, I must be missing something. Where exactly do they order the configurable upgrades from the client side? I can only get a link to "view available addons" by viewing package details. Is there an option I need to enable somewhere?
TDub
I see. It has to be an active order for it to be upgradeable. Makes sense.
davet
The one major difference I noticed is Configurable Options cannot have setup fees. Add-on products can.
davet
another difference i noticed is the billing cycle of Configurable Options is dependent on the billing cycle of the product. With add-ons the billing cycle is independent.
davet
The one major difference I noticed is Configurable Options cannot have setup fees. Add-on products can. Looks like I am mistaken on this one. You can now add Setup fees to Configurable Options
chickendippers
I use addons for things like SSL certs and IP addresses because they are either on/off. Where you want to offer a choice (eg. different amounts of data transfer) I'd say configurable options are more appropriate.
tsiedsma
Hmm, I must be missing something. Where exactly do they order the configurable upgrades from the client side? I can only get a link to "view available addons" by viewing package details. Is there an option I need to enable somewhere? I too am having troubles with this feature. I set all of the configurable options and they work great during setup, but if a client already has a plan with set configurable options, I can't find a way to upgrade or downgrade the account, let alone add configurable options.
