Using a Non-WHMCS Design

Recommended Posts

OK. Thanks. So that means that I can use my own design or a non-whmcs specific design? I've had different answers. I like yours the best! To be clear what I'd like, I'd like to dump the WHMCS generated product page into a web design. Does this mean a WHMCS template?

you can use your own design to create a product page into your existing site, e.g if you were using wordpress, you could have your own pricing tables and each product could be linked to the appropriate product within the WHMCS cart.

however, those links will open in WHMCS and if your non-WHMCS and WHMCS sites don't match, it might look a bit strange.

so the basic answer is, you can either do everything from within WHMCS - or you could use an external design, and create a WHMCS template that matches your external design to make the transition between the two seamless.

I had to do this using an older version of Modern Bill. It was nice in that it allowed 10 different identities - domains. Each could have a custom template that matched the web site. But it isn't that I don't want to use WHMCS to basically build a web site. IIt is that I have located a template that is sharp but is not made for WHMCS as it was stated by a template reseller. It is plain HTML 5. I can work with it but I'd rather use WHMCS if I can find a design that I like.

Another matter is that I currently use Plesk and Virtuozzo. Parallels wants me to use their billing system called PBAS. But I got hosed once before. We're adding cPanel and that won't work inside of PBAS. I guess I've answered my own question :-)

What are some good template vendors for WHMCS?

it may be possible to integrate the HTML5 template that you like into WHMCS - difficult to say without knowing what it looks like. :)

if you can do it yourself, there is a basic how-to guide on the WHMCS blog - http://blog.whmcs.com/?t=69003

if you need help, then you could use an Integration service to create a WHMCS theme from your HTML5 template - there is an experienced Canadian company that some of my clients have used, WHMCS Integrations (http://whmcsintegration.ca) - also, WHMCS offer their own integration service too (http://www.whmcs.com/services/integration/)... you can probably find other alternatives via Google!

it depends on what you want - whether it's a store-front to display all your products, or just a client-area type design... the vendors that spring to mind - with apologies to any that i've missed out...

CMSBased - https://cmsbased.net/

WHMCSThemes - http://www.whmcsthemes.com/ (some free)

Zomex - http://www.zomex.com/templates/whmcs/

the most important thing to remember is to ensure that the template works for your version of WHMCS - so if you buy a v5.3 template and try to use it in WHMCS v6, it won't work correctly (and vice versa).

so if you're buying a WHMCS template off the shelf, check which version it's designed for - with v6 only just being released, a lot of them may not have been updated yet.

if you're integrating, it might be best to go straight for a v6 integration, as otherwise you might end up paying twice (once for v5.3 and then when you upgrade WHMCS to use v6).

if you want a more individual site, as opposed to a generic template one, integration might be a better solution - it might also be cheaper.

hope that helps.

A slightly different approach that we are taking is to use Wordpress & WooCommerce combined with a plugin to interconnect Woo and WHMCS ( http://developer.artevio.com/ ) .. Still early days is getting all working but it seems pretty good so far.

I see that some developers are beginning to release version 6 templates. I have very strong feelings about WHMCS and for different reasons. But I guess there really aren't any other viable choices for those of us that use Plesk and soon enough, cPanel. I have purchased many templates before when we did basic web design and allowed customer to pick a design and then we'd build it out. I learned the hard way that not all templates are the same. Some (many) developers forgot or never learned to K.I.S.S. Keep it simple. They'd get fancy with their coding only to render a design that is all askew in Dreamweaver CS. My point is that I like to try before I buy. That doesn't seem to be an option unless I get a free template that really isn't what I will use long term.
