djpete
Why does WHMCS talk Calendar Year everywhere with stats and things. Wouldn't it be better to talk Financial Year as that is how we look at our business performance, from last June 30 to this upcoming July 1? Any advice appreciated.
brian!
I suspect they originally did it because it was easier from a programming point of view and they've not had sufficient reason to change it. the reports aren't encrypted so you could modify them to start on a specific date if required - assuming you have sufficient php/mysql knowledge. I know you've already seen my widget that displays the income between two specific dates (or sets of pairs of dates) in the admin area... http://forum.whmcs.com/showthread.php?91343-Widget-to-show-income-between-any-two-dates-e-g-Fiscal-Year-Quarter-etc I suspect the sql could be used in a report - I think I read in a post that someone already had done this (or was going to)... that's probably the best you can do until/if whmcs implement a year start/end date.

Yes I am using your script but although it is great why should we have to add it and then modify it every yr to reflect the correct yr? I think it should be built into WHMCS as standard option to have that "view". I would rather see on the admin home page where the stats are on the top and it says This Year (Income) it should reflect Financial Year not Calendar Year there too, or at least in settings somewhere have the choice to set it at calendar or financial yr view. I think this would be a big plus for WHMCS and am surprised it hasn't been requested by more people.
brian!
Yes I am using your script but although it is great why should we have to add it and then modify it every yr to reflect the correct yr? originally it was written to display income between any two dates - it could be months, quarters, years etc - so to keep it simple and flexible, it just used two specified dates defined in the code... I later expanded it to allow multiple years to be shown (this year, last year, year before etc). however, you make a good point about the need to revisit the code each year to update the fiscal years - i've now rewritten the widget to automatically update itself each new fiscal year - now it only need two variables (startday & startmonth) - and it calculates the end date itself. there is also a second widget that can display the income for multiple fiscal years (upto 10). http://forum.whmcs.com/showthread.php?91343-Widget-to-show-income-between-any-two-dates-e-g-Fiscal-Year-Quarter-etc I think it should be built into WHMCS as standard option to have that "view". I wouldn't argue against that - although we can view those details in our accounts software, it would certainly be useful to have it as a quick option within whmcs. I would rather see on the admin home page where the stats are on the top and it says This Year (Income) it should reflect Financial Year not Calendar Year there too, or at least in settings somewhere have the choice to set it at calendar or financial yr view. I think this would be a big plus for WHMCS and am surprised it hasn't been requested by more people. that part of the admin area is from an encrypted file and so can't be easily modified - so you'd need to either use a widget to show those figures, or perhaps use a modified admin theme... of the two, the widget would probably be the easier path! i've written another widget, Fiscal Summary, that currently reproduces those three income figures, but replaces the calendar year total with a fiscal year total. plus, the widget is written with flexibility in mind to allow you to display different periods (This Week, This Fiscal Month, Quarter etc) instead of these default periods - all that requires is a minor change to the SQL code. http://forum.whmcs.com/showthread.php?94823-Widget-To-Display-A-Summary-Of-Fiscal-Income-For-Multiple-Periods
