brzell
Does WHMCS get installed under a user account or root like in WHM in Cpanel ? Also, if installed under a user, can it be moved to a new server in the future in WHM without any problem ?
0 bear
Under a user account (best practice is not along with hosted accounts or on a shared server), and yes it can be moved later.

0 WHMCS Chris
Hello, Regardless of Dedicated, VPS, or Reseller - it's still installed as a user account. And yes - it can be moved later.
0 And then there was one les
In answer to your question, yes it can be hosted by the root account. The root account does have its own directory that can be accessed by the ip address of the server. You would have to configure a domain to work with that account though. As long as the server it is located on has all of the requirements to operate there should be no problem. In real terms of operation however, the root account is normally used as a system administrative account only and a seperate user account is created for any websites that you want to run. In this case you should only be running your hosting website. A WHMCS installation should ideally be located on an isolated server, by that i mean it should not contain any other "user" accounts for the safest possible installation. You should lock down the server as much as you can while still allowing the installation to function properly. For instance, There should be no need for any inbound access to the server save for certain requirements to allow you to access the server and your website to operate properly.
