BarrySDCA
I opened a ticket with whmcs on the 9th requesting information about how to import traffic data. I had to wait 24 hours for a reply that didn't answer the question. I was upset I waited 24 hours for a reply that didn't even answer my question and so I replied quickly asking them to answer it. They pointed me to the develoepr documentation - which as I had explained earlier - has no section I can find about importing data. end of the story I am 3 days into a ticket with no response. very displeased
bear
I opened a ticket with whmcs on the 9th requesting information about how to import traffic data. Traffic data? Can you explain what that is within WHMCS?
laszlof
I think you'll find posting a forum topic for help will be much better than asking WHMCS directly when it comes to custom scripts/modules, which it sounds like you're having an issue with. There are a number of developers on this forum with a lot of experience and can be very helpful.
BarrySDCA
ya...traffic data for VM subscriptions. As you know whmcs can bill for traffic overusage. I asked whcms a very simple question: I'm trying to connect our vps traffic data with whmcs. I saw a function once to import this data (I think) but I can't seem to find it now. Can you point me in the right direction please? 22 hours later I received: Please make sure "Update Usage Statistics" is enabled under Setup > Automation Settings. What server module are you using for your VPS servers? I just want to make sure that your module provides the needed functions to get bandwidth and space usage. If you require further assistance, please don't hesitate to let us know. not helpful AT ALL. I told them we use a custom Hyper-V module and asked again where I can find info about importing traffic data and was pointed to the develoepr API. despite my asking again for a SPECIFIC PAGE (because I had already searched for it before entering the ticket), no response even now - 3 days after opening the ticket.... so much for my coding plans this wekeend. good to know WHMCS takes time as seriously as I do...not...errr I simply need to know how to bring traffic data from our hosted VPS's to whmcs. I am using a custom module and it appears they have no API functions to do that. So I see in the tblhosting, they have a field for traffic but no description about how it's used. i.e. can I just update that field with traffic data? Does it reset each month? etc. I opened the ticket 3 days ago expecting to get on it today but of course I'm still sitting here waiting for a reply from whmcs (no) support. In fairness, this is not the support that I have typically received from whmcs. It's had it's ups and downs. this is definitely a big down - I can not stand ANYONE wasting my time. If this continues we will be looking for another CP. no support is just inexcusable.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted February 11, 2012 WHMCS CEO Share Posted February 11, 2012 I'm sorry to hear you're not happy but let's put a few things straight here. First off, you opened the ticket on the evening of 9th February, today is the 11th, so it's not even been 2 days since you opened it yet - actually less than 48 hours. And within that time you've already had 2 replies from our team, hardly no response. In addition, one of those replies did point you to the section of our docs that answered your question even though I see you did say you still couldn't find it, and you did bump your ticket in between which didn't help the response time. After that, your ticket was escalated to developers, and you've given us from 5.15pm on a Friday evening, until 4pm on a Saturday afternoon, before making a complaint like this. Our support guys did their best to assist with your enquiry, but they aren't all developers, and the documentation link should have allowed you to find what you need. I think the specific section you're looking for is http://docs.whmcs.com/Provisioning_Module_Developer_Docs#The_UsageUpdate_Function and of course the module dev kit includes a working sample as well. BarrySDCA
seems the forum post finally jerked a proper response from them. the link I was looking for was http://docs.whmcs.com/Provisioning_Module_Developer_Docs#The_UsageUpdate_Function I don't know what was so difficult that I couldn't have been given this link back on the 9th. I hope this is a one time support blunder and not the start of a trend. thanks
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted February 11, 2012 WHMCS CEO Share Posted February 11, 2012 To be fair you weren't very clear in your original message though... "I'm trying to connect our vps traffic data with whmcs. I saw a function once to import this data (I think) but I can't seem to find it now. Can you point me in the right direction please?" Nowhere there does it say you wanted API docs or docs to integrate it into a custom module. The "function" reference was taken to mean you wanted to know where the function existed in WHMCS, and that was the answer you were given. If you had been more clear with the question I'm sure the initial response would have been more to your liking. Matt

tomb
Don't blame WHMCS support! Be sure to add all necessary information into your tickets. Their support is outstanding.
BarrySDCA
Excuse me! I am not aware there is any other "FUNCTION" than an API function. You may be confused with "features". Show me any point in the documentation with the word FUNCTION that is NOT API The inability to accept criticism and use it to improve your service is a big concern. PS: I don't plan to get into a big dispute here. If you must have the last word then go ahead.
laszlof
Excuse me! I am not aware there is any other "FUNCTION" than an API function. You may be confused with "features". Show me any point in the documentation with the word FUNCTION that is NOT API Function has several meanings. I could see how it might be confusing if not properly explained.

Max_nl
ya...traffic data for VM subscriptions. As you know whmcs can bill for traffic overusage. Be aware that the built-in overage function can only bill in megabytes. Which is probably not what you want for VM subscriptions. While it is possible to specify $ 0.001 per MB in the settings, if you normally charge $ 1 per GB, it is far from practical. Because if your client only went 100 MB over the limit, he will get a bill for 10 cents, which he might not be able to pay because payment gateways do not accept such low amounts Would be nice if WHMCS added support for GB and TB some day...
