Managing accounts with 2 Domain Registrars

PipeSurfer

Question

I'm unsure how this would pan out, let me know what you guys think

Using Registrar 1 for a couple of years where I have quite a few domains and I'm getting $8.99 pricing, I would like to switch to registrar 2 for lower pricing.

I understand that all fresh domain registrations and transfer-ins will come under Registrar 2 when I change my registrar option. I was wondering what's going to happen to my existing domains (under registrar 1).

Will they be renewed under the old registrar? I would like to transfer them over (ideally w/o effort) to the new registrar when they come up for renewal for the better pricing. Is this possible? Can I automate it?

Thanks

  • WHMCS Support Manager

The existing domains will all stay with Registrar 1, clients can continue to manage them via WHMCS and they'll be renewed at Registrar 1. This is because which registrar is used is set on a per-domain basis under the client's Domains tab.

Understood. If the registrant approves the transfer mail, would I be correct in assuming that the domain will be transferred to Registrar 2 at the backend but available for management through the same account like before?

Reg 1 & Reg 2 are both using WHCMS
