SSL Cert For Domain - Will It Apply To WHMCS Folder?

Hey all,

I have WHMCS installed in a folder called "manage" - therefore my URL now looks like:

http://www.mycompany.com/manage

If I purchase a standard SSL cert (not a wilcard cert), can I apply the cert to the main domain (mycompany.com) and will it still apply to the "manage" folder?

Or must I specifically use : http://www.mycompany.com/manage

Thanks,

Kristy

Issue it for "domain.com". Most certs now also include "www.domain.com" as well, but you should check to be sure. Anything under that "domain.com" would be covered by the SSL. The certificate should not be issued for "http://" since that's not the site but the protocol for connecting to it.

However, this will not cover sub-domains

my cert covers all my subdirectories as well

Subdirectories and subdomains are not interchangeable. ;)

A subdomain is indeed a sub-directory of the main hosting site in most cases, but it can also be called as "sub.domain.tld", where a simple sub-directory cannot. Sub-directories work because they are under the same path of "domain.tld", so any that follow below that are still covered.

my cert covers all my subdirectories as well . I use it with my whmcs and hostbill directories with no issues.

it does not work with www. so I added a snip in my htaccess to ensure that is anyone accesses via www. it removes that

Alternatively you can use certificates cover both versions of the domain. Usually cheaper certificates are issued to either domain or the www of the domain, but certificates such as GeoTrust QuickSSL Premium, RapidSSL. The catch is you have to generate the CSR with http://www.domainName.com
