uberhost
If a client uses the hostname "server" they are trapped on the order form without an explanation as shown in the image below: If someone else would try this and let me know if you can duplicate the issue I'd be grateful.
scurrell
If someone else would try this and let me know if you can duplicate the issue I'd be grateful. Works fine on ours.
uberhost
Thanks mate, sounds like something for WHMCS to sort out for us. Cheers, Rick
uberhost
I've figured out why this is happening. WHMCS checks for duplicate hostnames, so if you had a client that purchased a VPS (or dedi) and only entered "server" as their hostname, it would error out if that short hostname is already in your database. Staff is correct in saying [NOT A BUG] but I wish this particular check was not made. Some of our VPS and even a few of our dedicated server clients buy servers to use as test beds thus they don't even use a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) on the box. GGWH-James
Really, the hostname and NS fields do not really need to be presented for a dedicated server order.

GGWH-James
Excellent point, James! Thanks mate, Rick Maybe I should rephrase that... Although WHMCS requires that a value for said fields is provided and validates, realistically, they should either not even be on the order page or be optional as opposed to required.

I understood what you meant and it makes sense to me. Seems to me they should be optional fields. Rick
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted December 23, 2010 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted December 23, 2010 As you're seeing "# #" instead of displaying an error message this means the error message is missing from your /lang/English.txt file, so you'll need to look into that.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted December 23, 2010 WHMCS CEO Share Posted December 23, 2010 And if you don't want to show the hostname or nameserver fields for a product then you just need to set the product type to "Other" rather than "Server". Yes, Chickendippers, I fixed that straight away. It's just that it was difficult to figure out since it was typing "server" in the hostname box that was causing the error. And if you don't want to show the hostname or nameserver fields for a product then you just need to set the product type to "Other" rather than "Server". I've fixed it by editing every dedicated/vps product that had "server" or "server." as its hostname. I'm just not sure why you check for duplicate hostnames to begin with.
