Mail Merge Stop Trigger

Is anyone aware of a way to put a "stop or abort" mail merge field in an email tempate to prevent an email from going out unless a specific set of circumstances exist?

 

e.g.

 

if $client_cc_number

 

$abort_email (don't send this message)

 

else

 

We don't have your credit card on file.

 

/if

The idea would be an additional way to filter messages sent to people.

 

In my case, I would like to inform customers that they do not have a CC number on file but without emailing everyone else who has an email on file. Currently, I have to put in some text that would make sense for the people whoi have a CC on file.
