Client wishes to change from monthly to annual billing

Hi everyone

I'm fairly new to webhosting, WHMCS and recurring billing. I live in Canada so am frustrated by the lack of options for true recurring billing (i.e. having a client's credit card charged monthly instead of having to invoice them and remind them to pay via PayPal). I am currently looking into psigate so if anyone has any feedback on them I'd like to hear about it!

I have a client who hosts with me - he placed his order through WHMCS for monthly payments but now has decided he wants to pay yearly. I have cancelled his monthly PayPal payments and am trying to set him up with a yearly payment account. However, WHMCS won't allow him to sign up with the same domain name - I receive a message saying that since the domain name is already registered with my company he needs to cancel it before placing a new order. Can I cancel his account on WHMCS and start over or will this automatically delete his website from my server? Argh! I'm scared to do anything right now!

I do my hosting through Hostgator, if that makes a difference.

Thanks so much in anticipation of (any) help.

  • WHMCS Support Manager

No need to cancel the plan and have them sign up again. You just need to navigate to the client's products/services tab and:

  • Change the Billing Cycle dropdown menu to "Annual",
  • Tick the "Recalculate on Save" checkbox,
  • Click Save Changes.

Et voila. When the client's renewal invoice is generated it will be for an entire year and not just one month.

Thanks, John - I think I found a workaround. Having cancelled the PayPal subscription via my PayPal account I went into WHMCS and created a new billable item.

I really appreciate your response - now I'll know what to do in the future!
