[NOT A BUG] Foreign Characters cPanel Password

Recommended Posts

I have just noticed that after upgrading WHMCS to the latest version that all the user cPanel passwords are completely wrong. They are full of weird characters which has never happened before during upgrading.

Passwords consist of characters like this H

Is this a bug and how can I fix it?

Thanks.

Surely someone has some info on this? The characters appear when a client goes to their account where the cPanel login info is. It looks like an error. Should the password be plain text to the signed in client or what?

Hi,

No this isn't a bug. This indicates that when upgrading you changed the encryption hash in the configuration.php file, possibly by doing a new install rather than an upgrade, and thus making the passwords un-decryptable by WHMCS. Reverting the encryption hash to what it was before or entering new passwords would be the solution to this.

Thanks for the reply Matt, I simply pasted the hash from a backup I made prior to upgrading. The passwords are showing correctly again but will this effect anything else?

Thanks.
