Daniel
Is anyone having issues with PayPal today? Clients are paying but nothing is being marked as paid in WHMCS. I can't decide if this is due to PayPal or the upgrade to 4.1.1 performed last night. Dan
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted October 14, 2009 WHMCS CEO Share Posted October 14, 2009 Yep, PayPal IPN is failing for everyone following some maintenance by PayPal earlier today that didn't go as planned. Refer to the url below for status updates: http://developer.paypal-portal.com/t5/blogs/blogarticlepage/blog-id/mts_updates/article-id/465 Matt PayPal IPN are continue to fail on our 4.1.1 installation, but we have errors in payment gateway logs. If this would have been caused by PayPal wouldn't be normal NOT to have errors entries in paypal gateway log? Thanks

No that's the whole point. Their maintenance has resulted in IPN errors. They are still sending the IPN calls but their handshake system isn't validating them. JLHC
Glad to know that it is not just me who are facing this issue. Maybe you guys should mass mail all clients to notify them about this?

WHMCS CEO Matt Posted October 14, 2009 WHMCS CEO Share Posted October 14, 2009 They've now closed the above maintenance window entry and opened a new one specifically for the IPN issue @ http://developer.paypal-portal.com/t5/Live-Site-Status/Live-Site-945-2-Update-Instant-Payment-Notifications-IPN-is/ba-p/158035#A470 (Status: On-going no ETA) Matt

Tim|EVO
Hey Matt, Thanks for keeping us up-to-date. Would you suggest we don't mark payments as paid as Paypal will catch up later?
UH-Matt
For new orders using subscriptions, they obviously aren't being marked as paid. But will whmcs correctly associate the subscription for future checking off on invoices in future months correctly despite this IPN issue? Anyone with experience of IPN failing, will they suddenly send out whatever is needed to confirm payments or should we be marking our invoices as paid manually? Thanks!
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted October 14, 2009 WHMCS CEO Share Posted October 14, 2009 They haven't stated yet if they will be resending the IPN notifications from today when it is fixed. It's been down so long though, and with the fact callbacks have still been being sent, just not verifying correctly, my guess is that they may not resend the missed callbacks. I can confirm however that providing you mark the invoice paid and enter your Seller's Transaction ID that shows for the payment inside your PayPal account (not the Buyers Transaction ID which will be different) then if a callback does come in, the payment wouldn't get added again. cyberneticos
Hmm,. if we mark the invoice as paid manually, and we don't do what you recommend ,. what happens exactly ? credit ?
Bartucxp
This is really funny, a company like PayPal having issues with IPN. They must be much more careful, at least they should be able to solve the problem in a few minutes. Its been more than 12 hours and still not working.
aXeR
Its not the first time either, happened last month too for a few hour after yet another failed maintenance window

WHMCS CEO Matt Posted October 14, 2009 WHMCS CEO Share Posted October 14, 2009 PayPal have updated the blog post to say this is now resolved. And indeed in my tests here it does appear to be working again! Matt

optize
What about all the failed attempts? Are they going to re-send them? It looks like it hasn't re-sent them so far. Edited October 15, 2009 by optize
aXeR
I had to manually mark the failed ones as paid which seems to have worked fine, I guess you just need to make sure you put the transaction ID in so it does not get repeated!
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted October 15, 2009 WHMCS CEO Share Posted October 15, 2009 A staff member from PayPal has posted that they won't automatically be resending callbacks but you can initiate a resending of them manually by going to History > IPN History inside your PayPal account. hideipvpn
Hi, Looks to work when "resending them manually"
TruWebPro
Can anyone tell me if this ongoing IPN issue could be causing PayPal to fail to create subcriptions on new orders? For the last few days all the transactions we send through PayPal collect a one-time setup fee but no subscriptions are created!
