Suggestion/Request: Allow 'localhost' domain.

As I'm sure you're aware, its currently not possible to have a 'local' copy of WHMCS running without getting a 15 day trial license.

I have a suggestion. Development/integration of a skin can take much more than 15 days. Why not allow (universally) licenses on the 'localhost' domain. Nobody outside of your local computer can go to 'localhost' so its not like its going to cause any licensing issues.

This way, we would all be able to use offline versions for development.

This would really help when developing!

but you could still use WHMCS in a offline versions so Matt could still loseout ie all you would need is a email server installed then it would be fully working ok the front end would not but the big part the admin would.

lol well the point is that the admin works, but clients don't have access to the installation

Also I suggest that license be fore only one admin and one customer, that way you'll be pretty much sure no one will be able to somehow hijack this license for their business use :-)

Hi,

We already offer an additional license on request, free of charge to anyone who has purchased a monthly or owned license from us, allowed to run in a localhost only environment for development and testing purposes.

But would there be a way for non WHMCS customers to get it? It sort of defeats the purpose of the dev license if you need to have purchased from here before :-/

Why would any software developer want to give a license to someone who does not own/lease a license?

To develop his/her code before the license is purchased :-)

It still makes no sense for whmcs (or any other software), to give a free license to a non-paying customer.

It would be like me saying that I will need a dedicated server in 6/12 months, but can you provide me with a dedicated server free now, so that I can set it up/configure it, then in 6/12 months I'll start paying for the server.

Giving a free "localhost" license to existing paying clients, is a good idea, and I am glad that Matt does this, but giving it to anyone does not make any business sense to me at all.

Well you have a point, but I think we can both argue our stands indefinitely :D

The scenario you created doesn't fit here as a localhost license doesn't cost WHMCS anything, while renting a dedicated server is always going to produce costs, maybe its more like colocation and setting up the server before you install it at the DC :)

Yes they are different, but in principle they are both products, and no one is just going to give a product away for nothing.

And it does cost whmcs something, a license fee.

Will this still be ok for those of us who got it from a reseller? If so, great -- thats all I think it needs :)

I am so pissed off right now.

WHMCS WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO HAVE A DEVELOPER LICENSE UNLESS YOU PURCHASE DIRECTLY FROM THEM.

We used a reseller and now can't get a developer license. What possible damn reason could they have?! Its not like customers can get on it!

Complete bull....very annoyed and will be going elsewhere. This has got to be the most STUPID move ever. Even AWBS allow developer licenses via resellers!

Wow...very mature of you to not only be harsh about WHMCS policy but also use language as well. If this is your attitude then maybe you should consult with your reseller as they are the ones who offered it to you. You save a few $$ from them, but lost out on a localhost copy......seems to me you should be looking in the mirror when you are complaining about policy.

If they offer that and you went with WHMCS then AWBS must lack other things you are looking for.

I suggest </thread> before this gets out of hand. I mean...lets complain about not being able to run a local copy, but not give compliments to the fact that WHMCS is fantastic application that offers great possibilities.
