attroll
What the heck has been going on with these forums lately. They have been very slow to a stand still when trying to access them? I even got a "php critacal error" a little bit ago.

MACscr
noticed the same thing, i thought it was my end... just got this when tryint to make this post: Failed sending email :: PHP :: DEBUG MODE Line : 234 File : emailer.php I had the same error at one point as well. Matt, its also a good idea to get rid of the SIDs in the url.
attroll
noticed the same thing, i thought it was my end... just got this when tryint to make this post: Failed sending email :: PHP :: DEBUG MODE Line : 234 File : emailer.php Yeah that was the same error I got. The slow down started last night and it is not all the time. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it slows down to almost a stop. I wish I could tell you what was causing it or offer advice, but I thought by letting you know Matt that you could at least look into it. I know it is not my computer because this site is the only one that is doing it. Next time it happens I will do a ping and tracert and see what I get.
yabado
May want to get rid of phpBB (most hacked board around). Punbb is real nice ;-)
MACscr
May want to get rid of phpBB (most hacked board around). Punbb is real nice ;-) Does punBB do all the same things that phpbb does? AFAIK the answer is no. Also, phpbb is only hacked when people dont update it. Its fine as long as it up to date and your not stupid about how you set it up.

bear
I've already suggested VB (my absolute, hands down favorite), but Matt said he prefers PHPBB. I haven't seen any of the issues myself... Ironically, as I posted this, it timed out and displayed incorrectly
welch
PHPBB is good, VB is great, but since VB costs and this problem is new, why not see if it can be fixed, and if it gets worse, then look into an upgrade.
MACscr
As a end user, i actually prefer phpBB over VB, but as an admin, I find VB to be better as well i guess. I havent used VB as an admin for a few years though.
rainboy
PHPbb will slow down dramatically when you try to use the internal mailer. Due to the nature of phpBB standard setup, it will try to send all subscribed members of a thread an email when someone updates it, if then the mailer is slow (for any reason) it will look like phpBB did slow down. But actually you are waiting for phpBB to send out the mails to the subscribed members of the thread. My Experience is that if you use a SMTP mail address to send the mail out, instead of the standard mail handler, it will go much better. Kindest regards, Patrick
