bear
Check your settings, making sure your user/pass is correct. Check that mysql is running.

simplybe
tr1p did you get this fixed. I've been getting the same thing for two weeks off and on each day while support has not found anything yet? I have seen this problem with customers on cpanel servers. Make sure your db has it's own username & password. If you use your cpanel user & pass to connect to a db it can have problems on and off with connections.
automatedreferral
My cpanel username and pass is different from my WHMCS database user and pass, if that's what you mean.

boyandhisdog
I am having this issue with a new install of the demo. Mysql is fine. Username and password entered in the install script is exactly right. config.php is written correctly. Other sites are having no issues with mysql whatsoever. Could not connect to the database - check the database connection details you entered and go back and correct them if necessary happens on install.php?step4 no matter what I do. This is with both the straight 3.81 and with the 3.82 files copied over. My only question is possible with the ioncube install. I copied ioncube folder into the whmcs folder and also added the correct line in the correct spot in the correct php.ini. phpinfo show the ioncubeloader as recognized. Somewhere I read that it needed to be in a parent folder of the folder I need decrypting. Is this correct? Oh well I will try it to be sure.
boyandhisdog
Update. Ioncube in parent directory and ioncube in /usr/local with line in php.ini edited each time to reflect the correct location all showing same results. Ubuntu 8.10 with DirectAdmin Panel installed. Connect details even using root not working. THe install script is just not able to connect to the mysql. Trying to find logs now. WIll post when I find.
bear
Username and password entered in the install script is exactly right. Are you quite sure? Has the db user been added with permissions to access the database (a common error)? Seriously doubt it's ioncube related, because if it was you'd receive a warning specifically mentioning that.
boyandhisdog
Hi Bear - 100% sure, bet my paycheck sure that username and password are correct. started MYSQLD with logging and not even getting connect attempts from the install script. ./bin/safe_mysqld --log="logfilepath"
bear
Well, if the config file has correct permissions and it's not even trying to connect (set to localhost?) then perhaps a ticket to WHMCS might help. Hard to troubleshoot by guessing from a forum thread.
boyandhisdog
Thanks, I have a ticket open as well. Always best to ask the community while you wait for support though.
boyandhisdog
My issue solved. In my case, several files corrupted during the FTP transfer. Included was the dbconnect.php. Uploading the zip and unzipping on the server worked much better. WHMCS is installed, running, connected to my DirectAdmin Panel, Pretty well configured and waiting for branding. Thanks community!
