growe
In my opinion you can't put a price on first impressions. If a site looks cheap or amateurish, visitors will leave as soon as they arrive. That being said what is the solution on a limited budget? I have a technical knowledge of various languages html, javascript, php, perl, etc; however, I have absolutely no creative talent. I am being honest with myself... My ability to design something that will professionally showcase my products/services is limited at best but more than likely non existent. The quick and dirty answer seems to be "Buy a template". At first thought, I had no problems with that; however, now I question whether I should stretch the budget (possibly too far) and get a custom design. Before expressing my concerns with stock templates, I want to hear what others have to say... good and bad.
HostOrca
You could have a look at user dollar at webhostingtalk.com, or visit his website http://www.zoodia.com. He has a good reputation on webhostingtalk, and does excellent work, I've bought 2 designs off him. They start at about $250 for a 10+ page design, and once you have bourght the design it's yours, will never be sold again. Ps I'm getting nothing for the links/recommendation, just that I've used him twice and been very happy. He also does logos, and last time I bought of him you also got free flash control panel demos.

growe
His site is currently "Under construction" so I can't see anything. Any conceptual thoughts about using stock templates? Good? Bad?
HostOrca
His designs are pretty much the same tho, the last 10 designs i have seen from him is pretty much identical, only the collor is different. I got 2 designs from him, they where totally diferrent, I personally have never seen designs of his that are identical. Back to the op. You can use 'stock' templates, the only disadvantage is that they won't help differenciate your business, and in some cases can have a negative impact. A person searching for web hosting visits a number of sites and he comes across 2/3 sites that use the same design, they may be put off, thinking that if you can't be bothered creating your own design (or having one created for you), then what else can't you be bothered with. Others of course will not be bothered. Your website helps to differentiate yourself from all the other hosts out the, and is your main "selling" point, it is definetly worth spending some money/time on it.
