nate
I don't usually post reviews but I am extremely impressed. I've been using ModernBill for a couple of years now and I decided to try out WHMCS yesterday. I used the import script and ran into no problems and I easily customized the template. The features are amazing and I now plan on sticking with WHMCS. If you use ModernBill and are looking to use WHMCS I would highly recommend it! I'd just like to say to the developers of this software that you guys did a wonderful job. Thanks! Nate

I just throw M/B away for good.
openmind
Good to hear positive feedback like this, I tried MB once but I ran into real problems with the brick wall that I was banging my head against trying to get it to work, in that the wall developed a hole!
niemie
Glad to hear this - I've been putting off the switch just because I am fearful something will go massively wrong and wreck the small hosting business I have.
chickendippers
Run a test migration first? As long as you don't run the WHMCS automation cron then no invoices will be generated so your customers won't be charged twice or anything.
brianoz
Glad to hear this - I've been putting off the switch just because I am fearful something will go massively wrong and wreck the small hosting business I have.Honestly, I'd be pretty confident in making the jump, after 2 years experience using the product and the team. The user community here is pretty great, lots of kindhearted and knowledgeable people, though that shouldn't be abused. The real difference over MB is the support though, my experience is that they will get back to you within 2-3 hours during the UK business day. Can't beat that... If you're really concerned, plan it all out, play with it in a test implementation, develop your packages, then get the WHMCS team to do the migration for you. The "WHM import script" is pretty smart too, if you use WHM, although you won't need it if they do the upgrade. What you'll gain is a billing system that is much more usable and functional, out of the box; you won't know yourself. Promise!
activeforce
We used to run modernbill v4 for years, glad we did the switch.
Varial
I can't believe anyone still runs ModernBill. So happy we switched to WHMCS a couple of years ago. SO MUCH BETTER!
kipperjp
I was with modernbill in the very beginning. They were great then, but once they got sold to parallels, I could not even contact someone there about my bill!! Plus MB tried to be all things to all people like M$ and turned into one bloated confusing product.
HostOrca
I was with modernbill in the very beginning. They were great then, but once they got sold to parallels, I could not even contact someone there about my bill!! Plus MB tried to be all things to all people like M$ and turned into one bloated confusing product. Yep I was with modernbill aswell, when it was V4. Modernbill V4 worked fine then and I was really happy with it. Then they brought V5 out and it was a pile of garbage, it had so many bugs in it even they couldn't seem to sort it out, they would fix one bug, and end creating 5 more. Support became virtually non-existent, and the software was just too bloated, and overly complex. I find whmcs a lot better. Efficient, functional, and easy to use, but with virtually all the features that you need. And support is excellent. When a new version comes out there are very few bugs. Plus new versions/features are produced a lot quicker than modernbill, and are more stable. I am sure that you will be happy you switched.
LEEthal75
I had 7 years worth of data in my MB4 database. Switched to WHMCS about 3 weeks ago. I wish I would have made the move a LONG time ago. This product far exceeds what MB is capable of doing. Great work WHMCS team, you've got yourself a client that's not planning on leaving anytime soon.
bemerson
When will Parallels be taking over WHMCS? (Just Kidding!)
boostplatform
When will Parallels be taking over WHMCS? (Just Kidding!) I doubt that will ever happen, BUT if it does...We've devised a plan. We will create 3 separate mobs of WHMCS users. All 3 mobs will then simultaneously storm the Parallels offices in Seattle, Washington DC, and London creating so much havoc that Parallels will be forced to PAY Matt to take WHMCS back...
mylove4life
The owners of HELM said that to in the beginning, that they would not sell. There is a price for anything....

openmind
After the Helm fiasco I'm afraid loyalty flies out of the Window. If there was a suitable replacement for Helm I would have moved already but DNP is not up to the job just yet...
brianoz
I know the above comments were tongue-in-cheek, but it's worth saying that there's a big difference between WHMCS and Modernbill/Helm - Modernbill was struggling financially (average product, many support issues), and I guess Helm may have been too, although I don't know the product. WHMCS on the other hand is going from strength to strength, with thousands of users, so I'd suspect they're OK for the moment. If someone manages to supercede them as best-of-breed for webhosting management, I guess there might be a chance of a takeover, but at the moment I'd think it *extremely* unlikely!
scurrell
Modernbill was struggling financially (average product, many support issues), and I guess Helm may have been too, although I don't know the product. On the contrary. Helm 3 was (and still is for many of us) the best Windows control panel around. Helm 4 would eventually have been as well, if the owners hadn't decided to make a fast buck and sell it to the worst software company in the world.....
mylove4life
Helm was not struggling in anyway, they just sold out...... and you can't really compare Helm and WMHCS as they are to different things really.... scurrell
and you can't really compare Helm and WMHCS as they are to different things really.... We weren't trying to compare them. Merely pointing out that if Parallels were ever to get their hands on WHMCS, that would be the end of it, as it appears to be with Helm.
chrcol
yes I agree the process is surprisingly easy. The only loss of data I had from the migration was I lost my TLD prices. dont get me started on modernbill They banned my installation although I had overpaid (charged card multiple times) and wanted to charge me to contact them regarding their billing error, and because of the other problems (emails to customers not working amongst other things) I took the plunge and here I am. Having only used WHMCS for a few weeks I already find it a much better product. Edited November 15, 2009 by chrcol
