well we should at least agree -

Let's put this to bed once and for all, folks: There's no such thing as a "duplicate content penalty." At least, not in the way most people mean when they say that.

 

So officially this isn't a penalty

There are some penalties that are related to the idea of having the same content as another site—..................or if you republish content without adding any additional value.

 

And lastly

So when people say that having this type of duplicate content can affect your site, it's not because you're likely to be penalized; it's simply due to the way that web sites and search engines work.

 

So having duplicate content is NOT penalized, but from the way the crawlers and sEO's work, it can affect performance, so it is best to ADD content to something. If you have multiple sites (as in a CMS) add to your default content so even though to the human eye, you are duping, but in actuality to the crawler you are not, because you have more content and something else to add to it.

 

OO and actually for the last

In summary: Having duplicate content can affect your site in a variety of ways; but unless you've been duplicating deliberately, it's unlikely that one of those ways will be a penalty. This means that:

 

* You typically don't need to submit a reconsideration request when you're cleaning up innocently duplicated content.

* If you're a webmaster of beginner-to-intermediate savviness, you probably don't need to put too much energy into worrying about duplicate content, since most search engines have ways of handling it.

* You can help your fellow webmasters by not perpetuating the myth of duplicate content penalties! The remedies for duplicate content are entirely within your control. Here are some good places to start.

The goal of search engine algorithms is to find and present what the searcher is seeking. If you produce what people are seeking, then sooner or later the search engines are going to become smart enough to figure it out. Focus on valued content for your intended humans, and assume that the better search engines will deliver the interested humans to you. Life is too short to play games trying to trick an algorithm that is always changing to try to evade the tricksters. Better to work on creating more content for your human audience. Creating a unity of interest between you and the search engines is what's going to pay off in the long run.
