Matt Wade
I'm currently looking to switch away from Modernbill and WHMCS looks like a great choice. The one thing that is stopping me from making the switch is the inability to import client's credit card details. I understand that I can pay to have this import done, but I believe it should be a fundamental part of the import script. I also find it a bit misleading that this information about credit cards is not mentioned anywhere and one must dig deep into this forums to even find out about it. The information provided on the web site about the import scripts says, "Just enter your database details, and the script will do the rest including server information, product groups and packages, TLD pricing, clients, invoices, hosting accounts & domains." Based upon that, one would be led to believe that the credit card details would be transfered, even though it is not explictly mentioned. Anyway, I just thought I would give me feedback since I am a potential customer that is on the fence over this credit card import issue.
jas
Im failing to see whats misleading here. When it quite clearly states what is does: "including server information, product groups and packages, TLD pricing, clients, invoices, hosting accounts & domains." The import script is a bonus, its not something that has to be included, its not part of a billing system its simply there to make your life a little easier. Matt Wade
I didn't say it was down right devious, just a "bit misleading". Normally when someone says "the script will do the rest including...", most people will think that the script will handle everything (i.e. "the rest") and that the "including" portion is just giving a few examples of what it will do...not an exhaustive list. I also disagree with the import script being a bonus. They aren't a bonus. They are an essential tool for anyone with more than a few clients. The import scripts are prominently advertised on the front page of this web site. I know that without an import script this billing system would not even be a consideration for me (and I suspect many other people as well). There is no way I would think of migrating the number of customers I have by hand. Thanks for your input. I'm not trying to bash WHMCS, but only trying to provide some feedback (as per the title of this forum).
Emerson
I did the same move as you and did not find that misleading at all. When I saw that "credit card info" was not included in the "including" part I just asked. For the amount Matt charges for the import it is not even worth worrying it about it. The time and headache you will save by moving will soon make you feel like you should have done it a long time ago. Yes, the import script is indeed missing a few things as is the WHM import script as well. But again, the amount Matt charges to make things work is not even worth the time to debate it does or does not. Go for it dude, you won't regret it. vT16
I have to agree with the OP here, it's kind of un-ethical to not include that the credit card information is not migrated with the Import tool. When you see that it will "import" the information from Modernbill, and does not list or say anything about anything what it will NOT import, but just to top it even a bit more, then the creator is charging extra money to import vital, important business information from modernbill into a WHMCS software that clients of WHMCS just paid 300+$ for. If you ask me, it's not only un-ethical, but it's illegal as the promotion is mis-leading.
DataHosts
If you ask me, it's not only un-ethical, but it's illegal as the promotion is mis-leading. Should I even speak my mind on your <<snip>> response? How is it illegal when it states what it can import and not...hence 'included' and 'not included'. <<snip>> Just for your viewing pleasure I have taken the time to bring you a nice picture with words....see attached. ModernBill Import Script Imports: Clients, Invoices, Transactions, Hosting Accounts, Packages and Domain Pricing So vT16..I am confused on your remark When you see that it will "import" the information from Modernbill, and does not list or say anything about anything what it will NOT import, ****SPOILER for the Import Script**** If it is not listed beside 'Imports:' then chances are that it may not do it, so, in a way it does let you know what it will NOT IMPORT

So vT16..I am confused on your remark ****SPOILER for the Import Script**** If it is not listed beside 'Imports:' then chances are that it may not do it, so, in a way it does let you know what it will NOT IMPORT +1 Why would somebody assume that CC's are imported. As by just looking at the list of import scripts available. You can see they all vary, and obviously do not state CC importing. It clearly states what it does "import." So obviously assuming if its not listed, its not supported is a good idea. It is not misleading if you take the time to actually contemplate what it is stating. Then perhaps asking somebody if you cannot get your head around the idea. I say somebody locks this before it gets out of hand. It's headed that way fast... Matt Wade
I'm not going to go as far at vT16 and say it is illegal. All I was doing was trying to give constructive feedback. But, I do have to respond to you, GopherHosts. You give screenshots and examples that are only available to a person after they sign up and purchase the product. As far as I know, I can't access the client area until I purchase the product. Secondly, It lists that it imports "Clients". You say that since it does not list credit cards specifically, that I shouldn't expect it. Well, should I expect it to import the client's address, phone number, or zip code? How about their email address? All of these are client details, just as the credit card is a detail of a client that I expect imported. Again, I'm not trying to bash the product. It looks awesome. I really am considering switching to it, despite this issue. I just wanted to point out (in a constructive fashion) something I found as a problem.
