transferring an expired domain from another directi account

It depends on the domain status.

If it's in the recovery period then the previous registrar has to pay a recovery fee which is typically 5-6x as much as standard domain registration. I *think* directi's fee was 65USD last time i checked.

Obviously if it's the customer's fault they would have to pay, if it's the registarar's fault i'm sure they don't want to fork over the money but they should be responsible for it.

Usually you have to pay for one year of renewal as well (which your client would be responsible for regardless).

Since it's being renewed during the recovery depending on the TLD's rules you may have to wait before transfering or if you do transfer your client may forego a year of registration.

If it's after the recovery period then you can freely register the domain yourself as long as no one has beat you to it.
