Invoice number changes after payment

After an invoice (some, not all) have been payed, the number changes

from 2038 to example 24

 

What is the problem, or better, what am I doing wrong ^^

Do you have "Sequential Paid Invoice Numbering" checked in Configuration, General Settings, Invoices?

No, you don't have a problem. This is exactly how it supposed to be.

You have unpaid numbering and paid numbering. They are separated.

How can I change this?

I don't want this, a invoice number must be the same at all times, payed or not paid.....
