Pre Sales Questions

Question

I have been going through both the admin and client demos, but have a ton of questions. I will fill in the answers as they come in for those that are interested in the list.

1 - I could not find domain lock/unlock in the demo. Is this because it is not live?

2 - Are button labels part of the templates? For example, can I change 'Get EPP Code', to 'Auth Code'?

3 - When clients login, is there a way to have an in-their-face alert for expiring products and services?

4 - When ordering domain, can we give them nameserver options so that they are not filling it in themselves unless they are using there own nameservers? We might want a 'DNS Manager' option, a 'Hosted With Us' option, and a 'Use Your Own' option.

5 - Do pending transfers appear in the "My Domains" area? Does it have transfer status and customer re-submit capability?

6 - Is there an option for allowing someone to renew a domain without logging in?

7 - "Registration Date" versus "Next Due Date" are confusing in the demo - in the client demo site, two domains shows "next due date" ~50 days prior to when it will expire. Is there an option for setting when the autorenewal occurs?

8 - The autorenewal option sends out an invoice, but only renews if the person pays the invoice. That sounds more like an auto renewal reminder with a payment link built into it. Is there any way to set things so that the credit card in the account is charged and the domain renews if the client has chosen AutoRenew?

9 - I would like to see a client area interface with 200+ domains in it; what does the pagination and navigation look like for this? If someone could post a screen shot, that would be great.

10 - The shopping cart doesn't prevent conflicting products as far as I can tell; for instance "email forwarding" and "hosting" can both be added to the cart. Is there any way to disallow certain products from being ordered together?

11 - How does WHMCA handle CIRA insanities? Will the system queue the changes at CIRA so that the client can then go verify them? Does the system notify the client to let them know how to do this?

12 - Does WHMCS handle domain transfers that complete shortly after their time limit expires?

13 - Does WHMCS submit delete requests to Tucows/Enom etc if you cancel an order within the 4-day window?

14 - Domain parking - does WHMCS have a way to take advantage of Tucows' parked page, email and Premium Domain services?

15 - How does WHMCS handle Tucows WHOIS Privacy and Managed DNS? Can they be a billable services? How would that be configured in the product/service configuration and yet be contingent on the registrar?

16 - I could not see how to create Tucows Blogs, Email service, or web template product/services. Is there something not connected in the demo that prevents these from showing up in the "Module Settings" pull down, or do they not exist?

17 - How does WHMCS handle domain expiration timing and redemption with the "My Domains" list? Can it allow customers to renew domains our of redemption and can it submit it to Tucows/Enom?

18 - Does WHMCS integrate with Tucows domain search suggestion tool?

19 - Queuing orders - how does WHMCS handle domain registration when communications are down between web servers and Tucows/Enom? How does it handle soft errors like registration detail errors, CIRA stupidity, lack of funds to complete transactions, bad nameservers, etc?

20 - Admin / Servers - With a farm of servers for hosting boxes, it looks like with WHMCS, I will have to manage independent DNS servers. I was moving towards centralizing DNS with Plesk Expand so I only had to assign one set of nameservers for hosting boxes. This is advantageous when you have foreign domains and you need to migrate the hosting account to a new server. Contacting customers to coordinate nameserver changes on foreign domains is a royal pain. I guess I could still tie it all together with Expand, but I need to know if WHMCS provisions through Expand or if it is designed to provision directly to a Plesk PSA box.

21 - One click order cancellation. Doesn't look like WHMCS can do partial-price refunds nor partial order refunds (by product). Is that true? How do others handle this?

Blimey, a lot of questions!

1. It does exist, but hasn't been implemented for all registrars: http://wiki.whmcs.com/Domain_Registrars

2. All text can be changed in the /lang folder.

3. Unpaid and overdue invoices are displayed on the client area homepage, I'm sure you could do some clever template modifications to make them 'in-your-face'.

4. Again, with some clever template mods I'm sure this would be possible.

5. They do, but the only status is "Pending Transfer". The client doesn't receive any more detail than that.

6. The domain will renew automatically (unless the customer turns it off or doesn't have a suitable billing source).

7. Next Due Date is when an invoice will be created for renewal. Expiry date is when the actual domain name will cease to function. You can choose how far in advance invoices are created.

8. This will happen on the invoice due date providing the customer has a sutiable funding source.

9. Lists domains alphabetically. Unfortunately there is (as yet) no way to sort differently or view all on a single page.

10. No

13. No, this is being discussed elsewhere in the forums.

14. As far as I know; no.

15. Yes. You configure prices for these services in Configuration > Generals Settings > Domain Tab.

16. Not supported

17. Customers cannot renew a domain in redemption IIRC.

18. http://wiki.whmcs.com/Contribution:Name_Spinner

21. Any refund on cancellation must be done manually.

This is updated. The questions in green (6, 11, 18, 19, 20) are still looking for answers

I have been going through both the admin and client demos, but have a ton of questions. I will fill in the answers as they come in for those that are interested in the list.

1 - I could not find domain lock/unlock in the demo. Is this because it is not live?

It does exist, but hasn't been implemented for all registrars: http://wiki.whmcs.com/Domain_Registrars (yes for Enom, no for Tucows)

2 - Are button labels part of the templates? For example, can I change 'Get EPP Code', to 'Auth Code'?

All text can be changed in the /lang folder.

3 - When clients login, is there a way to have an in-their-face alert for expiring products and services?

Unpaid and overdue invoices are displayed on the client area homepage, I'm sure you could do some clever template modifications to make them 'in-your-face'.

Customers cannot renew a domain in redemption

18 - Does WHMCS integrate with Tucows domain search suggestion tool? I understand it can use NameSpinner, but in order to use the premium domain option at Tucows, you need to use their name suggestion tool.

19 - Queuing orders - how does WHMCS handle domain registration when communications are down between web servers and Tucows/Enom? How does it handle soft errors like registration detail errors, CIRA stupidity, lack of funds to complete transactions, bad nameservers, etc?

Wow - thanks alinford,

I could have written that post as it is pretty much all the questions I have on my short list. I have a OpenSRS / Tucows account at very good pricing. To get the same deal at Enom I'd have to front about $4000. I see that WHMCS supports ENOM features pretty fully but only support the basic features on OpenSRS. I am particularly interested in using the OpenSRS premium domains name suggestion tool also. Tighter integration with OpenSRS - is this something I could pay someone to develop for me?

Thanks
