slim
When importing from the MB import script, are credit card details brought accross? I have used the import script once during testing and the card details do not seem to have been moved accross. What else is not brought accross? The documentation seems a tad light.
0 slim
I also have some other questions. What order should things be done when planning to use the MB import script? Example: Should registrars/servers etc be setup in WHMCS before running the import script? If I understand correctly I think that REGISTRARS should be setup, but not servers? (as this would be imported?) Am I correct? Am I missing somthing? Also, when I run a test MB import, I ended up with two servers in WHMCS. 1. MB Import Orphan Server - 11/500 2. server2 - 385/500 (server2 is the name of my server) Where did this "MB Import Orphan Server" come from? I cant seem to delete it in WHMCS because it has accounts assigned to it, but I cant work out how to find out what accounts they are.. (so I can fix this in MB before doing the proper MB-> WHMCS import)
0 WHMCS CEO Matt Posted June 5, 2008 WHMCS CEO Share Posted June 5, 2008 You should do the import from MB into a brand new WHMCS install. You can configure domain registrars before or after - doesn't really make any difference. Servers and packages are imported and need configuring after the import has been done so shouldn't be setup prior to running it. The MB Import Orphan Server is where accounts are assigned that have no server assignment in MB. You can view them once the import is complete by filtering the accounts list by server name in WHMCS. Credit card details are not imported by the standard importer but we do offer a service to migrate those over. Open a ticket for details. 0 slim
Can you advise what else the standard importer doesnt do? I dont want any surprises.. As you can imagine, once I 'switch' over, there is no going back.. So i need it to be right before making the switch. I have now identified the accounts that are not assigned to a server in MB and have addressed this.
0 slim
I must say, this WHMCS looks **** loads better than MB (which is a bloody mess). WHMCS looks more like a billing system that was designed for the Hosting industry.. i just need to get over to it! hehe
0 WHMCS CEO Matt Posted June 5, 2008 WHMCS CEO Share Posted June 5, 2008 Thanks for your feedback! The MB import script copies accross all servers, packages, clients, their services, domains, invoices & transactions. Anything outside of that is not imported. 0 chickendippers
If you want to do a 'test' import to see how it will react, you can always disable the cron job and not configure email sending; that way nothing will happen to customer's accounts and they won't be sent emails by WHMCS.
0 pdpd
Do not hesitate - Matt will see you right with this. Once you've switched, you won't believe the mess you used to put up with in MB. Everything is 100 times more intuitive and 'clean'. When we did the import, we set the Email system to use 'SMTP' mail, and left the fields blank so no Emails were sent. You can then set it to PHPMail when you go live. I would recommend you install WHMCS, set mailer to SMTP as above, contact Matt to assist you with a Professional Import, when done, disable MB and enable your WHMCS cron and set the mailer.
0 slim
Thanks for the info guys. I will contact Matt when I think I have the time (and patience) to do the conversion and I will pay for the pro service. I just want to educate myself as much as possible.. After using modernbill for several years I feel comfortable with it (as in that it will produce revenue I can spend!)... As im only new to WHMCS it will take a while to feel comfortable with it. I have another q. A situation that occurs in MB... A client signs up for hosting, say http://www.blah.com then, 2 months later they call me because their domain name is due for renewal, so they place an order to 'transfer' the domain. Now once this happens in MB, there are two identicle domains in MB - one not linked to any registrar and the other linked to the registrar. Im wondering how much pain this is going to cause me because I have had many many clients tranfer their domain to me somtime after they initially signed up for hosting and I need to know how WHMCS is going to handle this. Thanks
0 chickendippers
I remember this problem, but with WHMCS it's a non-issue. A domain product isn't created if the customer uses a different registrar, only when it's registered/transferred to you.
0 slim
This sounds great. In regards to how WHMCS plays with WHM. In MB there are two ways it can create an account.. either using just the predefined account as setup in WHM, or MB can specify all the bits an pieces, like FP extensions, quota, blah blah. Are the options the same in WHMCS ? Which is used by default? Which is better? If I want to offer add ons - say dedicated IP do I need to do anything special in regards to the Module Settings?
0 chickendippers
It's certainly quicker just to use the predifined account as setup in WHM as all you need to do is put the package name in WHMCS (you can leave all the other fields blank). Nothing special needs to be done regarding addons, but I don't think they're added to the server automatically.
