Moving from ClientExec

aXeR

Question

Hi Guys,

I'm currently contemplating moving from ClientExec to this as I'm in need of a 'credit' facility for when clients overpay etc.

I have a couple of questions I need to raise first though having used the 15day trial:

1.) Is it possible to get announcements automatically emailed to 'active' clients, I've added some test announcements but no emails seem to have been sent, is there an option for this?

2.) How effective is the tool for bringing clients across from ClientExec to WHMCS, is there anything I need to be aware of?

Thats it for now I think :)

Hi,

1. The announcements aren't emailed out as soon as you add them but WHMCS has a mass mail tool in Clients > Mass Mail which allows you to filter clients for exactly who you want to send email announcements to and customise the text for email purposes.

2. The CE import script we have will import all servers, packages, clients, hosting accounts, domains & invoices. It doesn't import custom fields or their values, nor does it import recurring invoices if you've set any of those up.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your prompt response!

Is there any chance of adding a function to allow announcements to be automatically mass mailed to clients, I'm sure we're not the first perspective client who has moved from an alternate product offering this as standard - it really does make life much easier!

Cheers

Perhaps having a checkbox on the announcements page for "Send Mass Mail?" would be a good idea so we still have a choice.
Then the message could be auto-filled into the Mass Mail form! That would be cool.

The importers don't import "orders" this is because they are part of the rather unique way WHMCS works. We previously used ModernBill (which doesn't have an equivilant "order" system), but it still imported all the packages and domains.

Like I say, the way we have it means you can customise the email, include merge fields to personalise it to the user such as including their name, domain, etc.., so much better than a flat "send this announcement out to all active users when I add it" option.

Matt,

But on the other foot, it takes too much time to complete. I'm I'm experiencing an outage, its affecting all clients and its important I can let them know ASAP so I don't want to be making sure I selected all the correct boxes (there are 8) ontop of posting the announcement too.

I really recommend taking this one leaf out of CE's book as their way of doing it is very quick and efficient!

After spending the evening play I have another request too.

I've been playing with the pre-defined 'product types' and have come to the conclusion that none of them are to my liking and wish to add my own based nearest around 'Other'.

In short, I want to de-clutter the window which in my current billing system contains crucial information, can anyone help?

But depending on the product type depends on what additional boxes are shown (e.g. root password etc) and all of the options bring through unwanted boxes which are cluttering the screen...

Only the type "server" has additional boxes as you call it. The shared, reseller or other product types don't display any extra fields on the order form. If you need to request additional information from your customers you can use custom fields.
