MikeDVB
What do you recommend? We've been running TrioLive and I am looking to move to something different. TrioLive isn't bad, but it seems a bit "bulky" to me. I have installed CraftySyntax but the chat itself seemd a bit flaky especially on the operator side, using refreshes and whatnot, sometimes it'd lose text or messages alltogether. HelpCenter Live seemed pretty good, not as feature rich as CraftySyntax but the head programmer of HCL has recently left (Feb29 08) so I am a little leary as to whether HCL will stay updated/secure. If you know of another good Live Chat script (free preferrably, or a modest fee) please tell me what it is and what you think about it. What you like/dislike. Thank you for your time.
mylove4life
I'd say if you don't want a package like Kayako, then PHP live http://www.phplivesupport.com is the best bet...
BAJI26
I like live help, the win appl chat is like msn.
MACscr
sorry OP, but all your suggestions are bad. If your wanting somethign really simple, then check out chatstat or providesupport.com. PHP live is decent as well, but i have no experience with the admin side of it. I really feel that HCL and especially Crafty (lol, what a joke) are not good options.
yukiko
one thing i learned is the web based client admin for live chat isn't a good way cause it causes allot of issues in long run due to the fact that if your internet drops you lose out on a possible client. Ones i suggest are Kayako (Provides Unlimited Seats) LiveResponse Product Price LiveResponse Monthly Hosted $29.95 LiveResponse Monthly Leased $29.95 LiveResponse Yearly Leased $199.95 LiveResponse Owned $299.95 Provide Support (Varies Per Plan) Account Type Small Business 1 operator Corporate 3 operators Enterprise 10 operators Included Discount 1 month subscription $15 $30 $60 - 3 month subscription $35 $70 $140 22% 6 month subscription $60 $120 $240 33% 1 year subscription $99 $198 $396 45% these are just the prices to help you make a good choice but it all depends on your needs really

handsonwebhosting
Kayako is who we use now, but phplivesupport.com and liveperson.com I've used both in the past. The only thing I don't like about Kayako is that it requires WINDOWS in order to run the chat software. This is a problem since my notebook is Unix phplivesupport.com in that respect has always worked out better on some of my other sites. As one of the other posters had said, if you lose your internet connection, your chat is dead - well this is true for ANY of the chat softwares I'd advise staying away from the free chat softwares as will cheapen the value of your product. Many of them are TOO cheap to operate on a site - great for personal sites, but for a business site there's no way I'd install them.
BAJI26
With http://www.stardevelop.com/ you can chat either using the web based script or the windows based program.
apollo1
Try; http://livehelp.stardevelop.com Stardevelop looks good, but the one thing that kind of turned me off is that you need to insert quite a bit of custom code. I like using Chatstat for something simple and reliable. The code to insert is like 4 or 5 lines, and it works like a charm.

You might want to try the customer-support software by nanoRep as well. Their self-learning knowledge base imports FAQ pages and supplies answers automatically to save on costs.
