jrh
Hello, I'm in the middle of trying to get my first hosting service up and running, and am currently looking for a merchant account. I just got done dealing with one recommended by my bank (Moneris) that said they require the first payment of all clients to be made over the phone (I'm supposed get their CC card verbally, instead of an online form), then the monthly recurring billing would be automatic. I'm not liking that option at all, as I feel forcing a customer to call is completely unnecessary - yet they said they've "never heard" of it being done solely online. Am I just misunderstanding how the billing is processed? Were they imposing the restriction on me because I'm starting out small? Any feedback is appreciated.
generic
you need a cc proccessor, not your bank. what country are u in?
jrh
I'm in the US. I know I need a processor - I just went to Moneris first, because my bank mentioned them - they claim to offer online merchant accounts, but as mentioned, I think they're not really what I want. I've been looking around a bit more, and read some other forum posts, and figure I'll try freeauthnet. But basically I just want to confirm that the concept of requiring clients to call me to give a credit card instead of processing online is silly. Thanks
RPS
You will want something like http://www.cdgcommerce.com/ It includes a free payment gateway, works just like the authorize.net one!
mrprez
Definitely go with someone else. They sound like they are not that experienced in online transactions. I have no experience with cdg, but I have used e-linedata in the past. If you call them there is a special plan for webhosts. Currently, I am using PayPal Pro and that works perfectly for me. I pay 2.2% plus .30 per transaction and a flat rate of $30 a month. None of this bs with all these backend fees stuck on there each month. Sohan
CDG are reliable. I see MANY companies partnering with them. They don't do that for no reason now ey?

pbhosting
im happy with paypal and googlecheck out.. for now but check with cdg ive considered them before, just decided to go with paypal since thats what almost every uses now a days. also make sure to do your research, dont get caught with hidden fees and extra fees like statement fee, online terminal fee, invoicing fee, etc. they add up quick and most of the time its just a way for them to siphon more money off your hard earned money James
Serenade
I was about to create a new topic, but this is almost my exact question. I guess I'm a total noob or something and don't retain replies that aren't directed at me (), but what should I use? CDG Commerce looks awesome, but how on earth do they make a profit? I'd like something free, or at a very very low cost. I pay enough monthly fees as it is. Sometimes small companies are great, like that earth one of the domains. Any suggestions?
