RPS
Client buys a yearly hosting plan with a free domain on 2/10/2007 at 11am. The domain will then expire on 2/10/2008 at 11am. The domain shows up as being $0.00 since it is a free domain. So when the cron runs on 2/10/2008, if the time it runs is after 11am, then the domain will be expired until the cron runs. Is this correct? Basically, this will result in a client's domain as being expired for a couple hours, until the cron runs on the expiration date. Maybe these free domains should be renewed a day before the expiration date?
isdoo
I do not think the time matters - whmcs just works on the date.
RPS
I do not think the time matters - whmcs just works on the date. - The time matters when the registrar renews it, but it doesn't when WHMCS renews it. Right? Time matters at the registrar from what I thought...
MikeDVB
I'd have it renew a few days ahead to be on the safe side just in case. Mike

RPS
I'd have it renew a few days ahead to be on the safe side just in case. - Well that's what I would think, however, WHMCS doesn't have an automation setting for when domains are renewed. you dont really have to worry about this , because you still have the grace period . you still can renew it after it expired for a certain time - Once the domain expires, and we are now in the grace period, the client's website is down. How is that acceptable?
webresellers
The client should get and email/invoice prior to the expiration date. ...With domains, people cant wait till the last minute to pay for a domain.
RPS
WHMCS doesn't process CC invoices until the due date. Isnt that a problem with domain renewals?
webresellers
In 3.6, we have WHMCS setup to process credit cards 1 day prior to due date... This gives us at least a 24hr window....
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted February 15, 2008 WHMCS CEO Share Posted February 15, 2008 WHMCS doesn't process CC invoices until the due date. Isnt that a problem with domain renewals? No, because the domain expires on a given day, and the charge would be taken on that same day. Hence the renewal is submitted before it expires. RPS
No, because the domain expires on a given day, and the charge would be taken on that same day. Hence the renewal is submitted before it expires. - That would be fine is domain names expired midnight of that night. However, a client's domain will not be renewed if the domain expires on the same day the cron runs, but the domain expires at a different time than the cron runs. Here's an example: I buy a domain on 2/16/07 at 1am WHMCS sends out proper notices, client has CC on file, so client assumes that the domain will renew just fine. WHMCS cron is setup to run at 4am everyday. So the domain expires on the day the cron runs, except, it expires at 1am. So from 1am until 4am (the time the cron runs), the domain is expired, client's hosting is DOWN, including all e-mails.
