Forcing Requirement fields on upgrade

I was wondering if its somehow possible to request a field on an upgrade from one product to another.

Example, lets say you have a trial product called A that does not require any details to the user on the ordering process. But then the customer can upgrade this to another product called B. Except here is a problem. Assuming the other product B requires a field in the ordering process, for example a domain name, the upgrade will now fail as there is no requirement on the upgrade form and the product B cannot be auto provisioned without a domain name.

This would be true for almost any upgrade on WHMCS as the upgrade does not check any required fields and assumes the original product has all of them filled in by default. Personally I think this is flawed.
