Creating an upgrade invoice without paying the current invoice that is not yet due

Our customers make a number of changes (upgrades and downgrades) throughout the month, no matter if there is an outstanding current invoice in effect or not. The customer wants to complete and pay for the upgrade and is not willing to first pay for the outstanding invoice which is not yet due and is considerably higher than the upgrade. When the customer tries to initiate the upgrade, he gets the message, "You cannot upgrade or downgrade this product because an invoice has already been generated for the next renewal. To proceed, first pay the outstanding invoice and then you will be able to upgrade or downgrade immediately following that and be charged the difference or credited as appropriate." (See attached)

To date WHMCS has been unwilling to address this issue. Has anyone come up with a work around so that the customer can be charged/credited for the upgrade/downgrade without paying for the current outstanding but not yet due invoice?

We understand that an interim upgrade/downgrade could change an outstanding invoice. We can work around the outstanding invoice not being changed due to an interim upgrade/downgrade.

Hey @John Wayt

At this stage, there's not a way around this clients need to pay the outstanding invoice and then upgrade/downgrade at which point they will be debited or credited based on the upgrade/downgrade.

I'd be happy to move this thread into the developers corner to see if anyone has some ideas on how to do this with a hook/customisation but I don't think it is possible.

Hi Chris - Thank you for the update. At the end of last week we did put together a work around to meet our needs. As mentioned in the last paragraph of our post, there is a small manual update required. We are in the process of implementing for our customer.

Thanks,
