A general query about affiliates

So we want to offer something close to being a reseller where certain clients can register their clients for hosting with us and earn a commission based on their registrations.

For example, Reseller A wants the ability to register Client A for a hosting package. Reseller A fills out a form and Client A is setup with hosting through WHMCS. Client A is invoiced by Darkfox and the earnings that we receive from Client A split and a percentage is given to Reseller A.

This way, Reseller A has the incentive to refer their clients to us however Client A will be the sole person on the account.

Is this sort of setup possible with WHMCS?

For example, Reseller A wants the ability to register Client B for a hosting package. Reseller A fills out a form and Client B is setup with hosting through WHMCS. Client B is invoiced by Darkfox and the earnings that we receive from Client B split and a percentage is given to Reseller A.

yes, I would think so - effectively all you're doing is making Reseller A an affiliate, and Reseller A will then use their own specific affiliate links to create account/order for Client B (i've renamed the client as all the A's were confusing me!)... assuming A enters B's contact details, the invoice from Darkfox will go to the client.

one potential security issue that I could foresee is if the reseller is creating an order, and therefore a new account in WHMCS, the reseller would know the client's password - now if you're intending to use a custom form, you may bypass this issue... but if the reseller is creating accounts on behalf of clients, then this problem will occur.

Hi Brian!

Thank you for your information on this one. Let's say that A get's a commission of 10% on all their sales and they sell $100/month; will the WHMCS automatically pay him out $10/month? And is there are a way to track this from the admin section?

The security issue isn't of great concern. With the way we manage affiliates at the moment, the referrer already has full access to the clients cPanel account as the referrer is the clients web developer. We're going to try setup global accounts for affiliates so that they can login to their clients accounts without using their clients password - however I'll have to look into this.

it assigns the commission to the appropriate affiliate, but it doesn't automatically pay them.

http://docs.whmcs.com/Affiliates#Making_a_Withdrawal_.28Paying_Commission.29

Making a Withdrawal (Paying Commission)

When an affiliate's balance reaches the affiliate payout amount, a request withdrawal button appears on the client's affiliate page. If they click that to submit a request, it will open a ticket notifying you of their request.

And is there are a way to track this from the admin section?

http://docs.whmcs.com/Affiliates#Managing_Affiliates

Managing Affiliates

  • To view & manage affiliates, go to Clients > Manage Affiliates
  • To view the affiliate statistics for a specific client, search for that client as normal and from the Client Summary page, click the View Affiliate Details link in the Actions panel
  • To view your best performing affiliates, click the Balance column heading to resort the affiliates into order of balance

there is an affiliates overview report available too.
