non-sequential invoice numbers

Hello,

 

We are looking at WHMCS but right now we have a show-stopper: we can't figure out how to randomize the invoice numbers.

 

Sequential invoice numbers make it very easy for our customers and competitors to estimate our revenues, which we don't want to happen.

 

Something like YEAR{RAND} or YEARMONDAY{RAND} would work.

 

Is there a way to do this?

not Random but it can be customized so it will be YEAR1000 - YEAR1004 - YEAR1008

Sequential numbering of invoices is a legal requirement in most countries, so better check this before starting your business. You can indeed customize the structure /formatting of the invoice numbering as sentq explained.

While not exactly random, we change the invoice increment number to an odd number so that it's not predictable sequential numbering.

No one will be able to get an accurate picture of your revenues by looking at the invoice numbers. Since day 1, packages may have changed in pricing, one client might pay $1000/year in invoice ID 50 whereas invoice ID 51 a client is paying you $3 per month. So just having the invoice IDs themselves, a client won't be able to tell the revenue you're making. Simply one can't make an educated guess.

 

If you really want this, you can set the incremental value in the admin area: Setup -> General Settings -> Invoices -> Invoice # Incrementation
