xxxmicrobexxx
Hey there, I have been running 5.2.16, that is the most recent version I have been reminded about. Now I get a reminder to upgrade to 5.3.5 Seems quite a version jump and there are no specific upgrade instructions. Is there anything I need to be wary of? Yes, I will do a db and site backup. Thanks in advance
Rivergrid
Me too. I'm intending to upgrade this weekend from 5.2.16 to 5.3.5 Do I have to go through all 5.3.x versions?
OWMConsulting
Hello all, I logged in this evening to ask a very similar question. Figured it's a good title, why create a new thread. Same questions as others, looking for feedback on updating from version 5.2.16 to version 5.3.5 (is it safe)? More importantly, is it necessary? Is version 5.2.16 still stable and will increment patches be released for this if there are security issues? I'm trying to decide whether or not I should dedicate the time this weekend to approach this. If it's not a necessary update, then I can prolong it until I've a better schedule. Appreciate your honest opinions.
brian!
Do I have to go through all 5.3.x versions? no, you can jump straight to v5.3.5 - you could go to v5.3.3 and then incremental patch to v5.3.4 and then v5.3.5, but that would be a waste of your time!
brian!
Same questions as others, looking for feedback on updating from version 5.2.16 to version 5.3.5 (is it safe)? the only issue I had when updating to v5.3.3 was a smarty compiler issue, which turned out to be caused by our server still running PHP v5.2 - updating that to PHP v5.3 resolved that issue... i've since incremental patched to v5.3.4 and v5.3.5 without any issues. More importantly, is it necessary? v5.2 goes end of life at the end of March 2014, so there won't be any updates beyond that point. Is version 5.2.16 still stable and will increment patches be released for this if there are security issues? I assume if something crops up before the end of March, they might... if afterwards, they probably won't. I'm trying to decide whether or not I should dedicate the time this weekend to approach this. If it's not a necessary update, then I can prolong it until I've a better schedule. whether it's 'necessary' depends on your definition of it - v5.2.16 isn't going to stop working, so its not necessary in that sense - but reading the changelog shows a lot of fixes and improvements. personally, if it were me and I had the time, I would do it - but if you don't have the time, then I don't think delaying for a week or two will make that much difference.
