Assigned affiliate not receiving credit for subsequent purchases

Hello all,

Scenario:

Customer clicks on affiliate link and makes purchase -> affiliate is credited and all is OK.

Customer returns some months later or from a different machine and makes subsequent purchase -> no affiliate is assigned to the purchase, and the referring affiliate gets no credit.

I thought that once an affiliate was linked to the customer account, it would be there always, as it is the affiliate who got us the customer in the first place.

In looking at the customer page, I cannot see anywhere where there is an affiliate assigned to the customer. It seems that affiliates are only assigned to individual products.

This, for me anyway, makes the affiliate end of WHMCS fairly hard to work with - as we sell SaaS, not hosting, and my affiliates would assume that if they brought us the customer, they should get credit for all subsequent purchases as well - and we tend to agree.

Anyone have an idea about how I can get what I'm expecting here -> a customer linked to an affiliate?

Anyone have an idea how to get what I'm looking for -- a customer linked to an affiliate rather than just a product? Or, am I incorrect and the customer IS linked...

it's just a cookie based system, so if someone uses a different machine and doesn't use an affiliate link, there will be no credit given.

but I think you can manually assign a customer to an affiliate.
